David Harber is a multi‑award‑winning, internationally renowned designer of luxurious, hand‑crafted sculptures. Our work ranges from Windsor Castle to private collections worldwide, crafted on site in rural Oxfordshire. We are a family‑owned business with a small, established team delivering exceptional service to an affluent audience of private customers, interior and garden designers, art consultants, and property developers.

Role overview

As Design Director, you will be a visionary leader and global ambassador who guides the creative direction of our New, Bespoke, and Classic collections. You will inspire a talented team, captivate international audiences with your design voice, and translate creative direction into elegant, commercially successful products that honour the founder’s legacy.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the full design process from research and ideation to concept, development, and final implementation for New, Bespoke, and Classic products.
  • Transform client briefs into inspiring bespoke proposals and experiment boldly with materials and finishes.
  • Lead and mentor the creative team, fostering curiosity, pushing boundaries, and driving innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, and Marketing to energise stakeholders and deliver exceptional results.
  • Act as a global brand ambassador, representing David Harber at high‑profile UK and international design events; build influential networks within the luxury design world.
  • Travel frequently to champion the brand on an international stage.

What you’ll shape

  • Shape creative concepts into elegant, commercially successful products while maintaining the Classic line’s vitality.
  • Develop bespoke proposals from client briefs and lead projects from sketch to proposal with precision and flair.
  • Lead external relationships with consultants and clients worldwide, delivering projects for prestigious spaces.
  • Provide leadership that inspires and mentors a creative team, aligning design excellence with business strategy.

About you

  • Degree in visual or product design (or equivalent) with senior‑level expertise, ideally in luxury goods.
  • Strong grasp of historical, classical, and contemporary design; ability to balance creativity with commercial awareness.
  • Experience in face‑to‑face client interactions; ability to translate complex briefs into elegant solutions while inspiring trust and collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills; proven success in leading, motivating, and developing a creative team.
  • Positive, open approach with the ability to inspire clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Travel readiness and willingness to represent the brand globally are essential.

Location, compensation, and benefits

  • Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire HQ (Hybrid – 3 days per week in office) with minimum travel of 6 times per year.
  • Salary: Competitive salary based on expertise + bonus; private healthcare with Vitality; pension; 25 days holiday rising to 28; birthday leave; employee assistance programme.
