Role Description
As Cloud Solution Architect (GCP) you will join our Core Engineering Practice to act as the technical design authority on projects and programmes delivering on the GCP Technology stack. You will act as subject matter expert for GCP Cloud within the Platform Engineering capability drawing on your specialist knowledge of this platform and its services.
You will hold key design roles in both implementation projects and internal IP asset generation and be capable of developing, refining and presenting Solution Architecture schematics within client facing settings working closely with counterpart SAs. You’ll be deeply experienced with modern cloud services and patterns such PaaS, SaaS and IaaS offerings and deft at providing seasoned advice and recommendations on modern architectural approaches in cloud. Recognising that the GCP service estate is vast you will be adaptable to new requirements and able to quickly learn areas of the service portfolio that may be new to you. In addition, you’ll be fully versed in practises such as Infrastructure as code tooling, DevOps and Cloud Security to name a few being a natural advocate and evangelist for fully automated cloud architectures.
As subject matter expert for GCP you’ll be responsible for building a community of practice excellence around this technology suite establishing yourself as the go to person within Kubrick for GCP knowledge. You will be happy to act as technical mentor to more junior members of the Platform Engineering team interested in developing their skills in GCP.
Key to the role will be supporting our Solution Leads and client team in solution design and pre-sales activities, in addition to working with our partner team to build credibility in relation to our GCP capabilities with partners such as Microsoft, Databricks etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Kubrick’s technical authority on the design and deployment of environments on the GCP environment stack. Lead design and blueprinting phases on our customer implementations and provide on-going assurance through build phases.
- Define best-practice for GCP based architectures & environments, accounting for scalability, reliability, security, cost and sustainable design considerations.
- Lead technical reviews of GCP based solutions, ensuring alignment with best-practice and industry standards.
- Deep familiarity with typical technical design authority review and governance processes required on project implementations with enterprise customers
Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical guidance for clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Support business development by contributing to technical proposals, client meetings and workshops, and enhancing Kubrick’s credibility with technology partners.
- Act as a thought leader by publishing (e.g.) blogs, articles and whitepapers, and representing Kubrick at conferences, webinars, and industry events.
- Keep abreast of latest developments and innovations within the GCP eco-system ensuring that customer and internal implementations are benefiting from these updates
- Ensuring that the internal asset and IP generation leverages latest GCP innovations where relevant
Team Development
- Work with Kubrick’s Training team to help develop the curriculum for junior consultants and act as technical coach & mentor to members of the Platform Engineering Practise in GCP and the wider cloud space
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and ethical/sustainable cloud use.
Required Skills and Experience
Technical
- Strong understanding of GCP Cloud Services across the PaaS, SaaS and IaaS portfolio. Demonstrable experience designing and deploying GCP services in the Data and AI space along with strong awareness of compute, storage, networking, security and data services.
- Experience deploying Modern Data Platform related cloud technologies is a must and familiarity deploying and running platforms such as Databricks and snowflake on GCP is highly desirable
- Strong networking experience and working within typical enterprise networking regimes such as Hub & Spoke topology and other GCP networking patterns such as Shared VPC.
- Experience in building Landing Zones patterns in GCP and with IAM and Organisational Hierarchy configuration
- Deep knowledge of Cloud Security patterns and experience designing secure cloud environments using Zero Trust, Defence in Depth, Principle of Least Privilege and Segregation of Duties principles
- Experienced in designing for observability, monitoring and alerting and demonstrable experience in building environments that promote SRE capabilities.
- Cloud FinOps awareness and ability to promote cost awareness in customer cloud environments
- Highly experienced with cloud automation and tooling such as Infrastructure as code via Terraform, Continuous Integration and Delivery system design. Experienced in guiding and advising on how to setup Terraform development and automated deployment processes with full security and release governance using modern tooling such as Azure Devops and Github Actions etc.
- You’ll have come from a hands-on engineering background and therefore able where needed to troubleshoot issues (such as coding or infrastructure issues) with our Platform Engineers.
- System and design thinking is a must for this role and you will be adept at putting together both Logical and Physical Architectures. You’ll be capable of understanding and thinking through solution and design complexities and mapping these to the appropriate cloud capabilities within GCP weighing up the relative pros and cons of each option.
- You will have 10+ project cycles delivery experience, across a range of industries preferably including Financial Services & Insurance, Energy and Utilities and Public Sector. Technical experience in an additional cloud environment in either Azure and/or AWS is desirable
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Demonstrable experience providing technical leadership for engineering teams on Cloud-oriented projects, ideally in a consultancy environment.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influence decision-making at senior levels.
- Experience supporting pre-sales activities such as bid writing and RFP presentations in a consultancy or product-led environment
Knowledge and Education
- (Desirable) Degree, Masters or Doctorate in Software Engineering or Computer Science
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: From £90,000 - £120,000, negotiable dependent on experience + bonus. Equity options available.
Location: Central London office space by Mansion House/Cannon Street/Monument (EC4V) with client site visits
Working Pattern: Hybrid – expectation of 2-3 days per week in our office and/or working at client locations.
