Marine Consultant – Marine Biology & Ecology

Our Marine Team is a core part of our success — delivering evidence‑led solutions to clients across renewables, infrastructure, water, oil & gas, ports and harbours, and conservation sectors. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Marine Consultant (Marine Biology & Ecology ALL LEVELS) to join our expanding marine ecology team and contribute to exciting, high‑impact projects across the UK and internationally.
The Role
As a Marine Consultant, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting and delivering marine ecology inputs into a range of multidisciplinary projects. You will work on everything from baseline data collection, environmental assessments and protected species assessments, to strategic advice on marine conservation, offshore developments, and nature‑based solutions. You’ll work alongside leading ecologists, planners, engineers and policy specialists — and your voice will help shape the sustainable future of our oceans and coasts.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare technical reports including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and marine licence applications
Contribute to bid writing, proposal development and client engagement
Undertake data analysis and interpretation of marine biological datasets
Collaborate with regulatory authorities, NGOs, developers and internal technical teams
Keep abreast of UK and international marine policy, legislation and guidance
Support mentoring of junior staff and knowledge‑sharing across project teams
Input into marine net gain, nature restoration and marine spatial planning projects where relevant
Qualifications
Degree (or higher) in marine biology, marine ecology, oceanography or related discipline
Solid understanding of UK marine habitats and species, and relevant survey techniques
Experience preparing and contributing to EIA and/or HRA chapters or reports
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and GIS capabilities
Proficiency in working collaboratively across disciplines and locations
Experience with MMO/PINs consultation and marine licensing processes
Chartered Ecologist or working towards Chartership (e.g., CMarSci, CEcol, CEnv)
Understanding of UK marine legislation and policy frameworks
Knowledge of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and marine nature restoration
Boat handling, dive certification, or UAV survey experience a bonus but not essential
