Overview

Associate Director - Town Planning at AECOM. Based from offices in Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Chesterfield, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Nottingham or Plymouth with hybrid working options. You will join a market-leading infrastructure planning team and work on prestigious projects in energy transition, rail and water sectors, plus regional and local developments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the planning consents service and provide line management and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Lead major development applications, including the Development Consent Order (DCO) process; offer strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on budget and within programme timelines; coordinate multi-disciplinary teams for seamless delivery.
  • Oversee deliverables from the planning consents team; implement and uphold quality assurance and health and safety principles.
  • Contribute to business development, nurture client relationships, and lead preparation of commercial tenders to secure new opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Significant relevant experience leading applications for planning consent for large infrastructure projects across a range of consenting regimes; expert witness experience would be advantageous.
  • Client focus with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach; existing relationships with clients and local authorities; business development mindset with experience in work winning.
  • Clear written communication; ability to work on own initiative and under pressure.
  • High level of commitment to quality.
  • Degree in Town Planning or related discipline; membership of RTPI or equivalent professional body.
