Responsibilities
- Accountable for the delivery of MEP services on projects to the agreed outcomes for time, budget, safety and quality requirements.
- Drive the delivery of high-quality, time-efficient and profitable delivery; provide leadership and accountability for compliance, governance, assurance, and management of teams of technical and construction staff; build and maintain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Lead the MEP team on the project with clear direction, guidance, and adherence to Mace standards.
- Ensure successful delivery of MEP services including programme management, health, safety and wellbeing, quality and commissioning of the project.
- Partner with clients, consultants, trade contractors and other team leaders to form strong working relationships.
- Support tendering processes and provide technical and commercial support to bid teams; identify and agree internal and external resource needs.
- Contribute to procurement strategies; ensure specialist packages are procured within scope and budget.
- Review contracts and scope; assist in budgets, value engineering, schedules and trade contracts; support commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to project strategic plans (e.g., prefabrication, commissioning and safety) within the Mace operating framework.
- Direct design reviews for compliance, coordination, and completeness, including embodied carbon and operational energy considerations aligned to RIBA/BSRIA frameworks.
- Develop and implement commissioning strategies aligned with Mace standards, IST approach, ATPs and soft landings.
- Use digital tools to monitor progress, identify risks and trends, and drive project close-out (including commissioning, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and client training).
- Identify risks and develop mitigation plans; drive continuous improvement and share lessons learned.
- Manage and influence key senior stakeholders (up to C-suite); supervise large teams and foster a continuous improvement culture.
- Provide performance management, technical development and coaching; collaborate toward net zero carbon goals and manage associated emissions reductions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Trade/technical apprenticeship or graduate development program; formal engineering training (HNC/HND, BTEC or equivalent).
- SMSTS and CSCS cards.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering systems, design standards, installation techniques, prefabrication, commissioning requirements; ability to manage the project team from tender through completion.
- Advanced knowledge of construction sequencing, planning, and dependencies; able to coordinate with other work packages.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial management, procurement processes, change control, programme impact, risk and forecasting.
- Advanced knowledge of health, safety and welfare elements such as working from height, electrical safety, fire safety, logistics and lifting.
- Advanced knowledge of quality assurance, system commissioning and integration (including BMS/IST) to achieve full project completion on schedule.
Additional Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and presentation skills; clear and confident communication tailored to the audience.
- Analytical, data-driven, and collaborative; open to new ways of working.
- Experience delivering projects with MEP value > £25m; relevant construction sector experience; proven track record of successful projects.
- Proficiency in building services or a specified engineering discipline.
