An ambitious and well-established accountancy firm is seeking an experienced Audit Director to join its leadership team in Thetford.

This is a pivotal opportunity for a senior audit professional who is looking to play a central role in the strategic growth of the firm. You will oversee a thriving audit department, provide technical and commercial leadership, and work closely with the Partners to strengthen client relationships and drive business development.

This position is ideal for someone who combines technical audit expertise with strong leadership and commercial acumen, and who is ready to influence the future direction of the practice.

The Role

As Audit Director, you will:

  • Take overall responsibility for the audit function, managing a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from owner-managed businesses and SMEs to larger corporate groups and not-for-profit organisations.
  • Lead the planning, execution and completion of complex audit assignments, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Provide strategic input to the firm’s leadership team, helping to shape the future of the audit service line and wider practice.
  • Build and nurture long-term client relationships, acting as a trusted business advisor and identifying opportunities for added value.
  • Lead business development initiatives, including networking, tendering, and cross-selling services.
  • Mentor, coach and inspire the audit team, developing talent and supporting career progression at all levels.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory developments and provide technical guidance to both colleagues and clients.

The Candidate

To succeed in this role, you will be:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with significant experience managing audits within practice.
  • Already operating at Director level, or an accomplished Senior Audit Manager ready to step up.
  • Commercially focused with proven experience of business development and winning new clients.
  • A confident communicator with the ability to build rapport quickly with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • An inspiring leader, capable of developing and motivating a high-performing team.
  • Technically strong with excellent knowledge of audit and financial reporting standards.
