About the Opportunity:

Sanderson King are proud to be exclusively retained by The Retail Bulletin (TRB) to appoint their Commercial Director.

TRB is a leading B2B media and events company dedicated to the retail industry, delivering daily news, insights, and interviews to keep professionals informed and ahead of trends. Alongside a portfolio of highly regarded conferences and networking events, TRB also runs the flagship People in Retail Awards (PIRA), celebrating excellence, innovation, and outstanding talent across the sector.

This is an exciting leadership role for a commercially driven, inspirational, and sales-orientated individual to play a pivotal role in the next stage of TRB’s growth.

The Role:

The Commercial Director will take full ownership of revenue generation, developing innovative sales strategies, and building meaningful client partnerships. We are seeking someone with a strong black book of contacts, proven success in closing high-value sales, and the vision to further expand TRB’s communities and events agenda.

This position suits an entrepreneurial self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving environment and has the gravitas to shape long-term commercial strategy while also being hands-on in execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Design and deliver commercial strategies that increase account penetration, drive new business, and align with company objectives.
  • Sales & Business Development: Personally lead on key deals while building and motivating a high-performing sales culture.
  • Partnership & Client Management: Cultivate long-term client relationships, secure high-value sponsorships, and represent TRB at major events.
  • Financial Performance: Deliver against ambitious targets, manage budgets, and provide commercial insights to inform decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Innovation: Partner with internal teams to deliver seamless events and champion innovative approaches to partnerships and revenue growth.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experienced commercial or sales leader within media, events, exhibitions, or related sectors.
  • Track record of consistently exceeding revenue targets and closing high-value deals.
  • Well-connected in the retail industry with a strong professional network.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, resilient, and highly results-oriented.
