As Commercial Director, you will be a key member of the Leadership Team, driving business growth and operational excellence. You will lead a high-performing team and focus on commercial strategy, margin improvement, and building strong client and stakeholder relationships. With a deep understanding of the utilities, collaborating with the Contract Director, supply chain, and customers to deliver high standards of service.

Description

The successful candidate will have experience in managing subcontractors, leading a team, and have a strong background in commercial management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the business and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders
  • Build and lead a high performing team of approximately 10-15 FTE’s with significant opportunity for growth of the team through growth of works
  • Ensure achievement of annual (and monthly) commercial objectives and targets
  • Active management and participant of the work winning process
  • Management and negotiation of key contract terms for new (& where appropriate, existing contracts) to minimise business risk and maximise returns
  • Develop new processes & management for: cost & value capture, subcontractor relationships and management, weekly profit and loss production and evaluation, and application process and accuracy
  • Value recovery, billing and WIP identification
  • Proactive management of cash (inflow and outflow) including identification of, and delivery of betterment
  • Compliance with Network Plus systems and processes to deliver contract management
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines – both internal and client enforced
  • Key client liaison from a commercial perspective
  • Improvement of Profit and working capital position
  • Drive a culture of margin improvement
  • Implement and Drive weekly & monthly performance reviews taking accountability for performance
  • Ensure contract compliance from an operational and commercial perspective
  • Manage risk profile and compete monthly risk appraisals
  • Compliance with ad hoc and year-end audit requirements and lead commercial liaison with external audit company
  • Identification of opportunities and ability to close out to the benefit of the company
  • Ability to manage client disputes
  • Implement and lead team meetings on a regular basis

Experience and Qualifications

  • Management of subcontractors
  • Leadership of a team
  • Leadership of a multidiscipline team (Senior QS, QS, Commercial assistants)
  • High volume activity contracts
  • Management and production of cost value reconciliations (Weekly P&L statements)
  • Experience of new contracts / change management of existing (setting up new processes)
  • Commercial management of £30m+ p.a. contract with ideally experience of multiple contracts
  • Development of key relationships with senior stakeholders (internal & customer)
  • Identification of process and performance GAPS and resolution of issues through development of improvements

Technical competencies include a degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent) and sound knowledge of contracts – NEC preferred.
