We are seeking an exceptional Construction Director to lead the delivery of major capital construction projects across the university’s diverse and ambitious estate. This is a strategic leadership position, critical to the development of a sustainable, innovative, and future-proof campus aligned with our long-term vision.
As Construction Director, you will oversee the planning, management, and execution of high-profile construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and sustainability. You will play a pivotal role in translating the university’s strategic goals into world-class built environments that support our academic, research, and community missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of capital construction projects across the university estate.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, planning, and contractual requirements.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including contractors, estates consultants, and internal teams.
- Promote sustainable and innovative design and construction practices.
- Maintain strong financial oversight, risk management, and governance across all project phases.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the construction and estates function.
About You
We are looking for a dynamic leader with extensive experience in managing complex construction programmes, ideally in a higher education or similarly large-scale, regulated environment. You will bring a deep understanding of modern construction methodologies, sustainability standards, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven track record of leading multi-million-pound capital projects.
- Strong understanding of procurement, planning, compliance, programming and risk in a construction context.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across a wide range of stakeholders.
- Commitment to sustainable development and innovation in the built environment.
