OverviewJoin to apply for the Data & Intelligence Director (Online Safety) role at Ofcom.This is an initial 18-month fixed-term contract as part of the Online Safety Programme, which aims to promote better risk management and governance, protect children, reduce illegal and harmful content online, embed safety by design in tech firms, and drive platform transparency and accountability.Your roleThe Director will establish and lead a new function that acts as the central hub for data strategy and insight across the Online Safety Group. You’ll be the single point of accountability for coordinating Ofcom’s online safety research programme, ensuring we extract maximum value from the information we hold and that data drives decision-making across strategic and tactical activities.You will empower teams with the intelligence needed to anticipate risks, respond to emerging harms, and assess our impact on online safety in the UK.Your responsibilitiesStrategy. Develop a data and intelligence strategy and delivery plan that places high-quality intelligence and advanced data analysis at the heart of the Programme.Requirements. Gather, refine and prioritise data and analysis requirements across the Programme and identify how best to meet them from Ofcom’s data sources and techniques.Data architecture. Champion architecture and infrastructure requirements to maximise data value; collaborate with corporate data and ICT teams responsible for organisation-wide data approaches.Impact. Ensure information, intelligence, evaluation and data outputs drive decision making; design and commission a suite of strategic intelligence outputs and ensure these are used by policy and compliance teams.Commissioning and planning. Lead and coordinate data and intelligence outputs to meet Programme needs; maintain the pipeline of data products, analysis and infrastructure projects; coordinate with Research & Intelligence and Economics & Analytics Groups.Evaluation. Coordinate and commission work to evaluate the Programme’s impact and how insights inform activities.Change. Contribute to Ofcom’s major Digital, Data and AI projects overseen by the Transformation Director.Partnerships. Establish relationships with strategic partners (e.g., regulators, law enforcement, civil society) to support data and intelligence delivery.The Director will establish a new team and coordinate with delivery partners across Ofcom; the exact team structure and numbers will be shaped accordingly.
