Position details:
Position Title: Director of Inclusive Childcare
Wage and Salary Range: (EXEMPT) $58.90 – $62.74 per hour
Status: Full-time (35 hours/week,) Permanent
Reports To: Executive Director, Terri Calvert
Anticipated Start Date: August (~18,) 2025
Position Summary:
The Director of Inclusive Childcare will be a vital leader, shaping the future for childcare at The Children’s Foundation. They will be responsible to oversee operation of affordable, inclusive, high-quality childcare for children aged 0-12 including curriculum development, training and implementation to childcare staff based on early learning framework and indigenous ways of learning. They will also be responsible for applications for new childcare opportunities as well as streamline financial responsibility for current and future childcare to be responsive to families and funders and balance budgets across childcare programs.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible to directly supervise staff, providing clear guidance, mentorship, coaching, training, conveying organizational and department goals, providing feedback, and ensuring all know their roles and responsibilities
- Recruitment, retention and training of all early childhood staff
- Oversee the development and management of the childcare budget, and contracts, collaborating with the Executive Director and managing program-specific budgets to ensure our programs have the resources they need to thrive.
- Help to bring The Children’s Foundation’s mission and values to life by building strong partnerships with organizations in the community
- Extensive knowledge of the Early Learning Framework an Inclusive practices and know how to empower staff to effectively implement such principles within our childcare programs
- Balance budgets across all childcare programs. Support Accounting with reconciliation and reporting of childcare finances, follow through with family payments and reimbursements
- Review and or creation of policy and procedures for childcare programs and parent handbooks
- Oversee childcare staffing, wages, auxiliary pool, childcare ratio’s
- Support the launch new childcare centers, leading on all startup functions, including applying for provincial $10 a day program
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations, a strong understanding of best practices for working with Indigenous and newcomer populations, grounded in anti-racism principles. A strong advocate for full inclusion.
- Work with childcare staff to improve skills, knowledge and overall training
- Be involved in related childcare committees and tables in the lower mainland
- Advise and support social media presence
- Creation of electronic waitlist system for families
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
- Two-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education with post-basic Special Needs Certificate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology
- Diploma in Infant Development and Supported Child Development
- Five (5) years recent related experiences including supervisory and administrative experience. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Proven collaboration, communication and consultation skills
- Experience in an inclusive childcare setting and working directly with children/youth
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of community childcare resources and other community support services.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of adult training principles and demonstrated ability to adapt to a variety of learning styles; knowledge of a growth mindset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of creating respectful, nurturing, and empowering relationships in building a cohesive team
- Proven organization and time management skills are required
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations, a strong understanding of best practices for working with Indigenous and newcomer populations, grounded in anti-racism principles. You are a strong advocate for full inclusion.
- Ability to think strategically, set priorities, and plans to achieve goals.
- Ability to manage confidential information and situations in a professional manner
- Demonstrate sound judgement and excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
- Ability to work cooperatively, foster a climate of shared respect, and collaboration in managing
- Ability to adapt to change and embrace new technology
- Competency using a virtual platform, electronic client record system and word processing software
Working Conditions and Provisos:
– Valid BC Driver’s License with reliable vehicle
– Physical ability to carry out duties of the position
– Criminal Record Check required
