Role Overview
Our global client in the media and gaming industry is building out a digital services platform to support innovation and excellence across the lifecycle of interactive content. As a key player in this space, they partner with some of the world’s most recognisable entertainment brands, helping them stay lean, agile, and focused on delivering world-class user experiences.
We’ve been engaged to help them hire a Product Engineering Director to lead a business-critical digital portfolio supporting their localisation capabilities. This newly created leadership role requires a pragmatic and hands-on engineering leader to help drive delivery, shape best practices, and work as a key partner to the product leadership team. You’ll bring a blend of technical strategy and delivery excellence, with the ability to guide architecture, engineering, and team culture to deliver real-world value.
This role is designed to work in close partnership with a new Product Director who owns the product vision and go-to-market strategy. Your focus will be technical execution, product architecture, and delivering a world-class internal and client-facing experience, including the strategic use of AI and automation.
We’re looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves and lead from the front — someone with a solid technical background, an understanding of product management, and a passion for building robust, scalable software. Long-term, you’ll help shape technical consistency across multiple product areas within a global group, bringing together people, process, and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural & Technical Leadership:
Own the core technical architecture for localisation products, making key build-versus-buy decisions and driving a clear technical strategy to deliver the best outcomes for users.
Define and implement a future-focused workforce strategy, including mindset shifts, new operating procedures, and team structure changes. Coach and mentor individuals while embedding AI as a human-in-the-loop solution.
Driving Key Business Outcomes:
Ensure technical delivery supports the following goals:
- Velocity: Improve delivery speed through automation and streamlined workflows, including AI-driven processes.
- Quality: Deliver customer outputs right the first time.
- Convenience: Ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.
- Keeping Current: Continuously assess and evolve tech stacks to reduce technical debt and adopt emerging innovations like AI.
Product Lifecycle Ownership:
Lead cross-functional teams from ideation through to launch and continuous optimisation, ensuring a data-driven, iterative product development approach.
Oversee product budgets, balance investment across the portfolio, and apply FinOps principles to ensure efficient use of cloud infrastructure (GCP).
Embed a DevOps culture, automate delivery pipelines, and use metrics to improve time-to-value and reliability.
Communication & Business Partnership:
Translate technical strategies into clear, engaging narratives for business stakeholders and exec audiences. Champion engineering best practices across teams.
Required Experience
- 5–10+ years in a technical or engineering leadership role, ideally full-stack.
- Experience delivering and maintaining AWS-based solutions.
- Background in AI-driven product development, including ML and Google Vertex AI.
- Proven FinOps experience (GCP or AWS).
- Exposure to localisation or games development is a bonus.
- Track record in operations, incident management, and building technical resilience.
- Strong communicator, comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience supporting GTM and product strategy execution alongside a Product Director.
Desired Attributes
- Empathy: Listens and leads with understanding — towards both team and customers.
- Self-Control: Maintains composure when under pressure.
- Adaptability: Open to change and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Optimism: Positive, can-do mindset that inspires others.
- Self-Actualization: Committed to personal growth and encouraging continuous learning in others.
