Base pay range

The Director of Software Engineering will join the organization to assist in the growth of the business from a start-up to a scale-up with an established engineering function. The team currently sits at 10 heads with the appetite to grow to 50 heads in the next 12 months.

Job Overview

Director of Software Engineering - £160,000 - £180,000 + Bonus – London/Rotterdam (Hybrid) – Energy & Commodities

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
• Define and execute engineering strategy aligned with business goals.
• Oversee architecture, code quality, and best practices across Python-based systems.
• Collaborate closely with product and data teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Implement processes for agile development, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.

Technical Requirements:

• Strong hands-on background in software engineering with a more recent focus on people and programme management.
• Experience working with a similar tech stack - Python, Django/FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS etc.
• Experience building and scaling small - medium engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills and ability to align technical strategy with business outcomes.
• Startup experience is a plus, especially in energy, commodities, or data-intensive markets.
