Role Overview
Mozilla is seeking a Director of Product Policy Strategy to lead the intersection of product development, policy, and regulation. This role ensures Mozilla’s products are backed by forward-looking policy strategies while influencing global debates on how technology should serve people and society.
Responsibilities
Lead a small global team of product policy experts.
Collaborate closely with Mozilla’s regional government relations leads in the US and Europe.
Partner with cross-functional colleagues in Product, Engineering, Legal, Communications, and Marketing.
The Director will drive the planning and development of policy positions on core product concerns in areas such as privacy, competition, advertising, AI, and security.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Strategy & Leadership
Identify the regulatory trends that should be a priority for our work which align with our long term product vision and Manifesto.
In partnership with the regional government relations teams, manage multi-stakeholder campaigns from conception through execution, aligning product policy advocacy with Mozilla’s ethos and product goals, specifically around privacy-preserving advertising, security, responsible AI, choice and competition.
Product Partnership
Serve as a strategic advisor to product, engineering, legal, marketing and comms teams, embedding policy understanding and considerations into product design, roadmaps, and launches.
Identify policy risks and opportunities early in the product lifecycle and translate complex technical concepts into policy narratives and advocacy positions for internal and external use.
External Engagement & Influence
Represent Mozilla in high-level discussions with policymakers, regulators, and civil society. Build trusted partnerships across the global tech policy ecosystem, including with peer companies, industry associations and civil society.
Drive Mozilla’s thought leadership through public speaking, media commentary, and publications.
Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and grow a small distributed team of product policy professionals.
Required Qualifications
Subject matter expertise and experience in one or more priority policy areas for Mozilla: privacy, competition, advertising, and AI - and demonstrate the ability to get quickly up to speed on others.
Degree in public policy, law, international affairs, or related field.
12+ years of leadership experience in technology policy roles (public or private sector).
Proven track record of influencing policy outcomes in multiple jurisdictions.
Strong strategic thinker with experience shaping product roadmaps in light of policy environments.
Excellent communicator with ability to translate technical concepts for policymakers and vice versa.
