Overview

Confero Recruitment Group are working with one of the UK’s leading architectural practices specialising in the design of complex and technically demanding buildings. They are looking to make a strategic hire at Director level to push the business on to the next level. The studio focus includes Defence, Health, Science, Higher Education and Research sectors, creating places that support discovery, wellbeing, learning, and national resilience. The practice is known for its collaborative ethos, design excellence, and long-term client relationships. The London studio is being expanded, and they seek a strategic and ambitious Director-level candidate to drive business development, lead key bids, and shape the future of the practice.

The Role

As a Director, you will play a central role in winning and delivering significant projects within the core sectors. You will work closely with fellow Directors and the Board to strengthen client relationships, secure new commissions, and lead teams on high-profile projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a client-facing environment, combines commercial insight with design leadership, and is ready to advance their architectural career. You will also act as the studio lead for Glasgow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead business development initiatives across healthcare, science, higher education, and defence sectors
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities and strategic partnerships
  • Oversee and contribute to high-quality bids and presentations
  • Develop and nurture long-term client relationships
  • Provide design and technical leadership across multiple project stages
  • Manage and mentor team members, supporting professional growth and development
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and networking functions
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure delivery excellence

About You

  • ARB-registered Architect with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience
  • Demonstrable track record of securing work across at least two of the core sectors
  • Strong industry network and a deep understanding of public procurement processes
  • Proven experience in leading bids and successful project delivery
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to studio growth and direction
  • Experience working on complex, high-value projects is desirable
  • A passion for creating architecture that supports innovation, care, and learning
