Binnies an RSK Group company is recruiting an Engineering Director for our Water Services Major Projects Business Unit.  The Water Services team consults, delivers and manages projects in the Water Utilities sector. 

Binnies currently has exciting appointments on major projects associated with the nationally significant Strategic Resource Option projects including Thames Water’s SESRO and Anglian Water’s Fens and Lincs reservoirs.

The Engineering Director will be accountable for the ongoing growth and management of the engineering team, working under our Major Projects Commercial Director and in collaboration with our Engineering Directors from the wider team. This will include planning and execution of projects across a number of key clients’ portfolios, and engineering resource management. 

It is expected that the candidate would have experience as a senior technical team leader within Water Utilities capital projects or similar field. Successful applicants will be able to work flexibly from one of our offices. The ability to travel to client and Binnies offices is essential.

Responsibilities

• Take a key fee earning position within major projects leadership such as Engineering Management and Principal Designer on our largest projects. 

• Oversees engineering teams to assure the planning, execution, monitoring and control of projects in terms of scope, time, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk procurement and stakeholder management across the major projects business unit.

• Management of the major projects engineering team including strategic resource planning and recruitment.

• Will provide technical guidance over a large group or business area or serve as a leading technical specialist with excellent technical knowledge and expertise.

• Leadership of a team of resources to service a number of major projects or frameworks, including strategic growth and direction. Including taking a leading role in the performance management process for the team. 

• Balance the needs of multiple projects across the Water Services business.

• Understand the customer’s basic and performance requirements during the sales process and formulate a scope of work that adds value for our customers and Binnies.

• Assess the technical and commercial risk of projects.

• Provide guidance and input for project pursuits and bids as Technical Director or lead author, review proposals and lead costings for new opportunities.

Attributes

The role would be suitable for an individual with a proven track record in the successful delivery of water projects.  You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

• Professional qualification in an engineering discipline (e.g. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer).
• Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) discipline.
• Proven ability to plan, execute, monitor and control projects in terms of scope, time, cost, quality, resource, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder management.
• Leadership skills to manage engineering managers, and project teams and create positive change.
• Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities.
• Proactive and methodical approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team with a desire to find a solution.
• Customer-facing success in project delivery.
• Liaison with internal and external clients to develop relationships across the business
• Excellent communicator with staff, clients, joint venture partners and stakeholders
• Understanding of consultancy commercial models.
