Royal Irish Academy (Acadamh Roga na hireann) Executive Director The Organisation The Royal Irish Academy (Acadamh Roga na hireann) is a publicly-funded institution established for the promotion of learning in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities throughout Ireland. The Academy was founded in 1785. The Academy is an independent all-island forum that connects the world of academia with the public and private sectors to address issues of mutual interest, through its outreach events and research projects. Drawing on the expertise of its members, the Academy makes a significant contribution to public debate and public policy formation on issues in science, technology and culture. The Academy leads important national research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage. The Role Reporting to the Council via the President, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership, in collaboration with the President, Officers and Council, to achieve the Academys goals, as set out in its mission statement and strategic plan. They will contribute to and drive the development and execution of the Academys long-term strategy with a view to fostering high quality scholarship and informing public debate. They will oversee the management of each department and project, while leading and implementing the Academys long- and short-term plans, as well as ensuring that there are appropriate internal controls for compliance with the corporate governance code. The Person The role requires a candidate who can demonstrate the ability to implement and move the Academy forward in line with its strategic plan as well as working with the President and Council in setting action plans and evaluating the results. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in a senior management role and a proven track record in organisational leadership with demonstrable experience translating ideas into tangible results. They will also have experience of and the ability to communicate effectively and represent and advocate for the Academy, externally and internally, and to additionally have effective interpersonal, presentation and oral and written communication skills.
