Finance Director – UK & Ireland

Job Purpose: To lead, coach and develop a best‑in‑class finance team and function. Own the UK&I business unit from top to bottom across a fast‑paced PLC environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial and management accounting function with strong focus and direction.
  • Own the accounting and reporting for UK operations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the C‑suite.
  • Lead business and financial strategy, planning, monitoring and reporting.
  • Ensure effective finance business partnering across commercial and support functions.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to drive performance and growth.
  • Lead the budgeting process and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Deliver accurate, timely financial and management reports with clear business commentary.
  • Present financial insights to executives and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial systems, including ERP, focusing on non‑payroll spend, inventory, banking and pensions.
  • Evaluate business drivers to support operational improvements.
  • Identify and implement cost efficiencies.
  • Manage fixed assets accounting and working capital.
  • Ensure internal controls and internal audit readiness.
  • Manage insurances, tax compliance (e.g. VAT) and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as auditors, banks and legal advisors.
  • Lead or support business improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain full documentation of finance team processes.
  • Collaborate with global finance teams and represent the business in group activities.
  • Lead a team across billing, collections, accounts payable, financial control and FP&A.
  • Set targets and expectations to align with business objectives.
  • Foster team performance, development and motivation.
  • Align resources to meet business needs.
  • Ensure team members are adequately trained and supported.
  • Take ownership of issue resolution and escalations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant UK and Ireland regulations.
  • Implement policies and controls to ensure compliance and sustainable growth.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Significant experience in senior financial leadership.
  • Proven ability to work with executive leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel); confident using accounting software.
  • Experience with reporting tools like Cognos or Hyperion.
  • Prior experience in a European multinational – desirable.
  • Track record in leading teams through change.
  • Strong analytical and process‑improvement mindset.
  • Capable of building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 10+ years post‑qualification experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Hands‑on leadership style; willing to be operationally involved.
  • Results‑driven and team‑oriented.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Full eligibility to work in the UK.
