Sport events organisation is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance and Corporate Services Director to join their senior leadership team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial systems, processes, and corporate functions that will support the delivery of the business's major event.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a robust financial control framework, ensuring compliance with internal controls and other best practices.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement & Contract Management, and Commercial functions, ensuring high standards and effective collaboration.
  • Manage the Xero accounting system, including updates to the chart of accounts, access controls, and development of reports to support financial reporting requirements.
  • Lead the month-end process, ensuring all balance sheet accounts in both the charity and trading subsidiary are fully reconciled.
  • Manage payroll and ensure all related submissions and payments are made on time.
  • Lead the annual audit process.
  • Prepare consolidated monthly management accounts and detailed financial reports for the executive team.
  • Produce financial submissions for monthly Board calls, including cashflow forecasts and other required information.
  • Work with department heads to maintain accurate cost and income budgets, and maintain a rolling monthly cashflow forecast.
  • Oversee effective procurement and contract management systems, ensuring value for money and appropriate risk management.
  • Manage the contract with the external HR provider and ensure effective HR provision across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the senior leadership team as a trusted adviser and critical friend.

Qualifications

  • Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong experience within the event delivery sector.
  • Demonstrable track record of financial leadership in a complex organisation.
  • Experience of Audit & Risk Committees.
  • Proven ability to closely monitor and manage cashflows.
  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and managing financial systems, controls, and procedures that ensure robust financial governance.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks, particularly in high-profile or politically sensitive environments.
  • Proven experience in negotiating and managing high-value contracts with suppliers, sponsors, and partners.
  • Experience of supporting or leading income generation initiatives, such as sponsorships, partnerships, and other commercial activities.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to solve complex problems pragmatically under pressure.
  • Highly collaborative leadership style, able to build strong relationships and work effectively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commercial acumen, with the ability to balance financial discipline with entrepreneurial thinking to support growth and sustainability.
