Our National Innovations Relief Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in preparing claims for Research & Development tax relief. We serve clients across sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies, helping them identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and our impressive client list will challenge you daily, enabling professional growth.

As an Associate Director within the Innovation Reliefs Software team, you will work in a growing, specialized tax team at RSM. The role involves collaborating directly with IT specialists across various businesses at the forefront of technology, within a global professional services firm. This position can be based in any of our Central or Scotland region offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Edinburgh, or Glasgow).

You will make an impact by:

  1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  2. Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and assist in identifying qualifying activities and expenditure.
  3. Writing technical descriptions of client projects for reports.
  4. Identifying, leading, and progressing business development opportunities, including pitching for new and existing clients.
  5. Serving as a point of contact on specific R&D software projects.
  6. Utilizing your computer science or developer skills to mentor junior team members.
