Interim Head of Major Projects

Location: Kent (Hybrid – 2–3 days/week on-site)

Day Rate: £800–£900/day


We’re supporting a major infrastructure organisation to appoint an Interim Head of Major Projects to lead two large-scale reservoir developments delivered under a Direct Procurement model.

This is a senior-level contract opportunity requiring someone who can hit the ground running, bringing proven experience in delivering complex infrastructure programmes and navigating highly regulated, multi-stakeholder environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of two major capital infrastructure schemes valued at £360m and £250m
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, delivery partners, legal teams, and investors
  • Navigate gated governance processes and lead DPC tender activities
  • Lead project teams across internal staff and external advisors
  • Own and chair governance structures, reporting into senior leadership
  • Manage commercial and contractual risk and financial performance
  • Champion innovation in procurement and delivery approaches


Essential Experience:

  • Extensive track record delivering £500m+ capital infrastructure projects
  • Deep knowledge of PFI, DPC, or similar alternative infrastructure delivery models
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with regulators
  • Experience operating at senior leadership level in complex, regulated environments
  • Commercially astute with experience managing high-value contracts
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline
  • Relevant project/programme management accreditation (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, MSP)
