Job summary

We are seeking a Non-Executive Director from a Health and Social Care background to enhance our experienced existing Board and play a key role in our journey to deliver our strategy and our mission to Make a difference every day to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

Job responsibilities

The Board is collectively responsible for the success of Nottingham CityCare Partnership and plays a key independent role in seeking assurance on the delivery of the organisation\'s strategy, performance and governance, while ensuring accountability to our commissioners and, as a social enterprise, to the communities we serve. All Directors, Executive and Non-Executive have responsibility to constructively challenge the decisions of the Board and support the development of priorities, risk mitigation, standards, and strategy. The Non-Executive Director holds the organisation to account, ensuring good governance and value for public money.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • The role and responsibilities of our Non-executive Directors include the following:
  • Commit to the highest standards of probity, integrity and governance and contribute to ensuring internal governance arrangements conform with best practice and statutory requirements.
  • Provide independent judgment and advice on strategy, vision, performance, resources and standards of conduct, and constructively challenge and help the Executive Board develop proposals.
  • Monitor performance and conduct of management in meeting goals and statutory duties, including preparation of annual reports and accounts.
  • Contribute to determining appropriate levels of remuneration for Executive Directors.
  • Chair and/or participate in sub-committees of the board, established to exercise delegated responsibilities.
  • Bring independent judgment and external experience to benefit the organisation and its stakeholders.
  • Assist Directors in setting strategic aims and ensuring resources are in place to meet objectives, with performance monitored and reviewed.
  • Provide entrepreneurial leadership within a framework of prudent controls to manage risk.
  • Set values and standards and ensure obligations to stakeholders and the wider community are understood and balanced.
  • Engage positively in Board discussions and act as an ambassador with stakeholders and, when appropriate, the media.
  • Scrutinise progress of transformation initiatives and ensure effective workforce adaptation.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to people, operations, culture, digital, and finances.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • You will have Board level Non-Executive Director experience gained in a large, complex, public-facing organisation including:
  • Substantial successful experience with a proven track record in a senior leadership role for a large and/or complex organisation.
  • Experience in developing and leading large teams, in Health/Social Care/ social enterprise sector.
  • Experience of leading or managing significant change to achieve outcomes for patients.
  • Experience of managing performance and quality. Ensure the voices of patients, service users, and staff shape strategic decisions and service improvements, aligned to CityCare values.
  • Experience of working with equality, diversity and inclusion matters and embedding EDI in organisational strategy.
  • Ability to understand and reflect the views of patients, staff, public, and communities in planning and decision-making at Board level.
  • Ability to challenge constructively with a strong understanding of healthcare, governance requirements, and accountability.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to the direction of a large and complex organisation.
  • Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve problems, and support adoption of new technologies to improve patient care and data-driven decision-making.
  • Support leadership in building a digitally skilled, adaptable workforce.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to promote agility and innovation.
  • Sound independent judgement and diplomacy to scrutinise budgets and financial risks for value for money.
  • Politically astute with ability to engage with ICB, regulators, local authorities, NHS bodies, and community partners.
  • Clear understanding of the legal duties of Non-Executive Directors.
  • Sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role and attend day meetings.

Desirable

  • Understanding of strategic challenges facing the health economy.
  • Experience in partnership working or involvement in voluntary sector or community development projects.
  • Patient engagement and patient focus.
  • Ability to attend board and sub-group meetings during the working day and participate in 10 Board meetings per year; willing to commit 2.5 days per month including sub-committees. Appointments are for 3 years.
