Role Purpose
The Operations Director will lead theevent operational modelofthisnew global sport & entertainmentleague. From a blank sheet to launch, this role builds the operational foundation forexcellence &successandownsturning a bold concept into a smooth-running reality — repeatedly, globally, and at scale.As one of the first two hires in a startup team, the Event Director will work in parallel with the Operations Director reporting to the COO to bring the vision to life and deliver multiple world-class events across multiple territories within the season.This is a high impact role that will be the engine room of the league season, where precision planning meets agile execution.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
Develop a scalable operational delivery roadmap to support event execution across multiple markets.
Develop the event &venueoperationsmodel, in alignment with broadcast andsportingstrategy, to shape the playerand audienceexperience.
Lead on thevenuefeasibilitystudy,in collaboration with the EventsDirector who will oversee strategic venue selectionandcommercial viability.
Collaborate with Events Director on individual and shared responsibilities, ensuring holistic management oftheevent lifecycle and season programme.
Stakeholder Management
Manageoperational relationships with venuemanagementand localeventdelivery partners.
Serve as lead contact forregulatoryauthoritiesand theeventsafetycommittees.
Event Management
Lead planning,deliveryand readinessofeventoperations,including infrastructure & services,sportingoperations,logisticsand transport,security &accreditation,safety,broadcast & media, hospitality &ticketing operations,concessions,fan experience production, eventstaffingand operational personnel welfare.
Work closely with the Events Director to align event experience with operational requirements.
Lead the development and implementationplans for eventrisk,safety&securitymanagements systems, ensuring compliance withleaguestandards & localregulations.
Manage the‘in country’travellogisticsfor series sports teams, officials, medical staff, and personnel.
Support integration ofleague-wide systems includingdigitalandsportingtechnology platforms.
Deliverpost-event reportingincluding data on operational activities.
Operational Leadership
Oversee theshort- and long-termstrategies forcoreleagueoperational functions acrosstheseason:league equipment & infrastructure,transport &logistics, security & accreditation, infrastructure, technology.
Ensuresporting operations&facilities are consistently elite standards, set through consultationwithCOO & ExecutiveGeneralManager.
Develop andmaintainthe Event Operations Playbook, detailing the operational standards, workflows, technical specifications, and compliance protocolsrequiredto deliver each event safely, efficiently, and consistently across all markets. The playbook will sit alongside the Event Delivery Manual and ensure seamless alignment between operational execution and the league’s global experience standards.
Compliance & Risk Management
Lead onregulatory compliance,permits and licencingrequirementsassociated with event operations,safetyand security.
Lead onoperationalcompliance and commitments detailed in the Stadium Venue Use Agreement.
Work in close collaboration with Events Director to develop andmaintainthe event risk register andlegal register as part of risk management and compliance management.
Work in close collaboration with COO, EventsDirectorand external consultancy to develop arobustC3 frameworkandincident and crisis management policy&procedureapplicable to the season.
Work closely with theEvents Director on the event budget management and cost control.
Responsible for the Op-ExandCap-Exfor event operations,production andsafety, driving strategic budget planning and operational cost efficiencies.
Work closely with the COO and CFOon development and implementation ofeventprocurement process.
Team Development
Procureand onboard local agenciesand vendorsto support with end-to-end event operational planning & delivery.
Shared responsibility with Events Director for team culture development and championing organisation values.
Candidate Profile
Experience
10+ years in live event operations at a senior level — ideally within sport, entertainment, festivals, or major touring productions.
Experience working with venue operators, international suppliers, and compliance bodies.
Proven experience and qualification in event safety management, including security & crowd management.
Proven experience in large scale procurement and managing operational budgets of 6 figures plus.
