This role reflects our expanding remit and influence in the heritage planning sector and the growth of our team with new people, skills and aspirations. We have a broad client base working across a wide spectrum of projects across the UK and as Principal Heritage Planner or Associate Heritage Director, you’ll have the opportunity to continue to develop your career working collaboratively with colleagues within our multi-disciplinary consultancy.
It is anticipated that the role will vary and develop as our market and geographies continue to grow and this will also be driven by your own skillset as well as your aspirations to take on more responsibilities and widen your role within the organisation. If the position of Associate Director is sought, candidates will be asked to provide a summary business case based on the value of existing and potential client relationships.
You will be:
You will take the lead on a number of projects from the outset, working closely with colleagues and clients to manage schemes at all levels from initial advice and early-design stages to the submission of applications for planning permission and listed building consent.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparing fee proposals
- Acting as project manager and key client contact, managing contributions from other colleagues and sub-contractors as needed
- Writing feasibility assessments, heritage statements, cultural heritage chapters for environmental statements and inputting to site promotion documents
- Providing technical and commercial minded advice for a wide range of project types
- Mentoring junior colleagues
- Attending internal and external meetings both in person and attending virtually
- Preparing appeal work and resolving enforcement cases
- Participating in networking events and actively seeking business development opportunities to develop client relationships
This role will be principally focused on built heritage and your experience should complement our background and reputation for both strategic land and development management projects, working with a wide range of clients from land promoters, house-builders, architects, planners and private individuals.
Essential Requirements
- Degree and/or post-graduate qualification in conservation, heritage or a related field, with previous experience in a similar role
- Experience of advising clients on a wide range of development types affecting heritage assets and the historic environment across both strategic land and development management projects
- Demonstrable knowledge of architectural history and strong technical awareness of different building typologies as well as regional and vernacular techniques and materials
- Thorough understanding of the legislative and policy framework for the historic environment and up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidance and case law
- Able to manage multiple projects to deliver a high quality of work and meet deadlines
- Excellent written communication skills with demonstrable experience of assessing the significance and setting of heritage assets
- Capable of confidently engaging with colleagues, clients and the general public in a variety of environments
- Associate or Full IHBC membership
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Experience of planning appeals
- Involvement with enforcement cases
- Knowledge of urban design
- Experience in using QGIS or other relevant software
- Knowledge of relevant Building Regulations
