Project Finance and Energy Transition - Director

Project leading the origination of new business opportunities and execution of financial advisory mandates and lending transactions for the Power and Energy Transition business in EMEA as required by the MD.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Origination and execution of suitable transactions within the identified sectors/geographic areas in compliance with the Department's strategy
  • Ensure that such transactions are structured to mitigate risks to the appropriate degree
  • Credit Application & Pitchbook preparation where relevant
  • Coordination of all internal deal related processes & execute such transactions
  • Obtain all necessary internal consents and credit approvals
  • Contribute to overall professional management of client relationships
  • Provide general support and assistance to the team assigned from time to time
  • Cross‑market and cross‑sell where possible including products from other areas of the Bank
  • Other duties as may be requested by the Managing Director and/or Team Head in support of the Department's ongoing business requirements
  • Compliance Responsibilities
  • Ensure overall conduct complies with that expected of an Approved person
  • Ensure that relevant anti‑money laundering and other Know Your Customer requirements are met
  • Key performance indicators
  • Ability to originate and execute project finance transactions
  • Meeting department's targets for revenue and profit as well as number and type of transactions
  • Development of pipeline of appropriate transactions
  • Task and transaction management
  • Contribution to meeting divisional targets for number and type of transactions
  • Comply with relevant internal and external policy/audit procedures/requirements
  • Maintain and develop good relations with clients and relevant third parties (e.g. other banks, law firms etc)
  • Maintain and develop relationships within the Mizuho global network
  • Relationships: Internal & External
  • Internal – Senior Management, Relationship Managers, PPMD, Global Project Finance Department, Credit‑related areas in London and Tokyo (Credit Dept, Credit Administration, Credit Risk Management, Credit Review, Rating Dept), Syndications, Agency, Legal and Compliance, European Treasury
  • External – Clients, Other banks/lenders/financial institutions/advisors, Legal counsels, Consultants
  • Key Risk Indicators: Credit risk: a high standard of assessment of project/credit risk is required together with an ability to negotiate, structure and document transactions to mitigate risk to an appropriate level; Processing Risk: a high standard of awareness is required in respect of the processing of unauthorised transactions; Reputation Risk: a high standard of awareness and conduct is required in dealings with clients and third parties (both external and internal)

Dual Hat Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will straddle both Mizuho International (MHI) and Mizuho Bank (MHBK)
  • Adhere to the Dual Hat Policies & Procedures which set out the permitted activities and ensure you conduct yourself accordingly, when acting in a dual hat capacity
  • Responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs, between MHI and MHBK, escalating where required

  • Adhere to the Group’s Dual Hat Policies & Procedures, regulatory and compliance obligations and any other applicable policies made available to you, and as updated from time to time

Qualifications, Skills, And Experience

  • Banking training or experience – essential
  • Project Finance structuring experience – essential
  • Knowledge of project and corporate finance structures, coupled with the ability to develop innovative solutions for the client – essential
  • Customer relationship management and marketing skills – essential
  • Knowledge of relevant markets and sources of finance – essential
  • Sector knowledge across Power, Renewables, Natural Resources and PFI/Infrastructure – desirable
  • Working knowledge of relevant areas of law and accounting – desirable
