The UK Endorsement Board (www.endorsement-board.uk) serves the UK public good by influencing and contributing to the research and development of high‑quality international financial reporting standards and their adoption for use in the UK. It will do this by:

  • Influencing the development of IFRS. Contributing to debates on IASB projects, consulting with UK stakeholders, and highlighting concerns to the IASB throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Taking responsibility for the endorsement and adoption of IFRS as specified in legislation, deciding whether to adopt IFRS for application by UK entities.
  • Providing thought‑leadership through research and by informing and educating stakeholders on developments in financial reporting.

In delivering these statutory functions, the UKEB adheres to the guiding principles of transparency, accountability, independence and thought leadership. The technical team supports the delivery of these aims efficiently, developing enhanced working practices and handling operational performance in its areas of responsibility.

The FRC mission is to serve the public interest by setting high standards of corporate governance, reporting and audit and holding accountable those responsible for delivering them. It sets UK corporate governance and stewardship codes, UK accounting, auditing and actuarial standards, and promotes the quality of corporate reporting through independent enforcement arrangements.

Job Description

The role: The Senior Project Directors support the Director in developing the UKEB’s strategy and delivering the technical work agenda on time so that the UKEB can effectively fulfil its statutory functions.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the delivery of a range of projects, managing and developing project staff, ensuring timely delivery of papers to the Board and effective presentation at Board meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to due process throughout the life of projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including active dialogue with the IFRS Foundation and IASB staff, and chair working groups advising the UKEB Secretariat.
  • Work with the Director and other senior Secretariat team members to manage and develop the team on an ongoing basis.
  • Help set the team’s culture in line with the guiding principles of transparency, accountability, independence and thought leadership.
  • Lead efforts to increase ‘joined‑up’ ways of working within the UKEB team and with relevant FRC colleagues.
  • Direct line management of a proportion of team members.

The Person

  • Knowledge and understanding of the wider public interest issues linked to influencing and adopting IFRS accounting standards in the UK.
  • Capacity to comprehend and articulate technical accounting matters to a range of stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of the due processes of the international accounting standard‑setting process and related organisations.
  • Ability to analyse complex issues, identify salient concerns and propose solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to debate complex technical issues.
  • Ability to listen, assess and assimilate others’ perspectives, concerns and proposals openly, and to convey them persuasively.
  • Focused on agreeing the way forward on projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating respect for others and able to establish credibility and influence assertively at senior levels.
  • Ability to manage staff effectively and collaborate with team members and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex projects, including setting and meeting deadlines and running working groups.
  • Sound understanding of the function of financial reporting in capital markets, the law relating to corporate reporting, and the role of the UKEB and its statutory functions.
  • Educated to a degree level with a professional or post‑degree qualification and extensive experience post‑qualification in a relevant field (e.g., accountancy, company law or financial regulation).
  • Commercial awareness and political sensitivity.
  • Demonstrable experience engaging successfully and confidently with external stakeholders at a senior level.
  • Self‑motivated individual who is confident, committed, enthusiastic and energetic.

The FRC operates a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation that a minimum of 40 % of a person's working time will be located at one of our offices per week. The UKEB’s work requires significant stakeholder outreach and the post holder will lead such engagement. The post holder will attend at least 35 scheduled stakeholder meetings per year at the London office and may attend additional in‑person meetings as required.

Additionally, the post requires some travel abroad, depending on business needs.
