The Technical Director role is central to this mission, ensuring that every Huel product is safe, compliant, and consistently great for our customers while enabling us to scale responsibly and sustainably.We’re now looking for a Technical Director to take full ownership of Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance, leading our global Technical function. You’ll set the strategy to ensure every Huel product — from ingredients and co-manufacturers to our Milton Keynes site — meets the highest standards, protecting our brand and customers while enabling us to scale responsibly and sustainably.This role will be based at our HQ in Tring, UK, with regular travel to our MK facility, New York office, and co-manufacturing partners across the UK, EU, and US. No day is ever the same, but here’s an insight into what you can expect!Lead the Technical function, covering ingredients, regulatory & compliance, contract manufacturing, and in-house manufacturing. You’ll hold overall accountability for food safety and quality across all Huel products and sites globally.Lead and develop a global team (c. 20 roles across UK & US), providing coaching, inspiration, and clear direction.Define and embed our quality strategy, delivering “right first time” products and a consistently outstanding consumer experience. Set reduction targets for cpmu and develop action plans to deliver these improvements.Ensure compliance with global food safety regulations and standards (BRC, FDA, SEDEX, etc.), proactively managing risk with robust systems and processesOversee supplier and ingredient approval, guaranteeing that all raw materials meet Huel’s exacting standards.Own Food Safety & Quality Management Systems (HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, GFSI standards), maintaining and continually improving certification levels.Act as the escalation point for all food safety incidents, leading clear, decisive responses and ensuring transparent communication with stakeholders.Partner with Product Supply to ensure safe, legal, and consistent manufacturing processes across our global network.Collaborate with In-House Manufacturing to embed the right controls and systems at our MK facility, leveraging a strong on-site technical team.Work cross-functionally on NPD/EPD projects, ensuring food safety and compliance are built in from concept through to launch.Champion a culture of continuous improvement, raising technical standards, building team capability, and embedding food safety awareness across Huel.What we're looking for in youA proven Technical leader with 10+ years of experience in the food industry (FMCG, manufacturing, or retail), with deep knowledge of Food Safety & Quality systems.Strong leadership skills: experience leading large technical/QA teams across multiple geographies, with the ability to provide structure and clarity while empowering autonomy.Deep technical knowledge of ingredients, nutrition, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to horizon-scan for risks and opportunities.Experience of working with similar products to those in Huel's product range - powders & dry ingredient mixes, aseptic bottling, canning, bars - within a manufacturing environment.Excellent stakeholder management, able to collaborate across NPD, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Commercial/Marketing functions.Strong understanding of allergen controls, testing methodologies and limits.What do we offer in return?We know that at times, our teams face demanding pressures, and exceptional effort deserves meaningful rewards.
