The Opportunity
A major clean energy organisation is seeking an accomplished Technical Director to lead the delivery of a nationally significant hydrogen project. This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of a flagship green hydrogen infrastructure asset — from detailed engineering through to commercial operation.
You'll be the driving force behind a high-impact project that will help shape the UK's low-carbon future, overseeing a broad range of stakeholders and technical workstreams including EPC, grid connections, power agreements, and more.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
Own the full project lifecycle from engineering to commissioning and start-up
Define and deliver the project strategy, ensuring targets on safety, budget, and timeline are met
Serve as the central authority for all technical and delivery decisions
Oversee integration between engineering, procurement, and construction
Owner’s Engineer Oversight
Act as primary point of contact for the Owner’s Engineer (OE)
Ensure OE resourcing and performance align with project milestones
Maintain strong lines of communication between internal and external stakeholders
Procurement & Contract Management
Oversee delivery of the electrolyser package and EPC contracts
Ensure seamless integration with grid connection and related infrastructure
Manage commercial obligations, KPIs, contract variations, and claims
Support final negotiations for power supply agreements
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the face of the project to regulators, funding bodies, the offtaker, and local communities
Ensure reporting requirements for investors, government partners, and funders are fully met
Provide project updates to steering committees and executive boards
What We’re Looking For
Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, or similar)
10+ years’ experience in major project delivery (CAPEX >£50M), including 5+ years in a senior leadership role
Proven experience delivering complex energy or infrastructure projects through EPC and commissioning
Strong track record managing Owner’s Engineers and multidisciplinary teams
Commercial and contractual acumen
Confident communicator and stakeholder manager
Familiarity with hydrogen or renewable energy projects a strong advantage
Chartered Engineer or relevant project management certification preferred
