Assistant Cruise Director for Azamara Cruises. Department: Hotel. Employment Type: Contract. Location: Shipboard. V.Ships Leisure is looking for Assistant Cruise Director on behalf of Azamara Cruises. This position is responsible for working with the Cruise Director to coordinate, schedule, and supervise the guest activities presented by the Entertainment Division.
Responsibilities
- Performs/participates in key driver events where needed
- Performs a solo 45-minute high quality, guest entertainer style show in the Cabaret Lounge
- Socializes with guests at ideal times such as sea days and cocktail hours to lead the Entertainment Team by example
- Hosts and co-hosts activities, games, and events as required, ensuring consistent quality and energy across all guest touchpoints
- Must host each bingo game session
- As the owner of the Bingo program, oversees the entire bingo operation, complies with all Bingo procedures; inventory, promotion, selling of cards, verifying and completion of end of cruise paperwork; financial results reflected in evaluation
- Meet and/or exceed target revenue APD; assist in revenue increases in Entertainment & Cruise Programs Department
- Monitor budgets for the Entertainment & Cruise Programs Department related to supplies and equipment
- Maintain and supervise lockers and storage areas for the department; monitor safe-keeping of costumes and props
- Prepare and submit requisitions for prizes and activity supplies using MXP
- Assist in preparing and cross-checking activity descriptions for The Insider; learn about Music and Shows input
- Schedule and supervise Entertainment Team members with the Activity Host & Company Manager to coordinate daily schedules and guest-facing timeslots
- Oversee efficiency, proficiency, punctuality, and effectiveness of the Entertainment Team
- Act as liaison between the Cruise Director and onboard Entertainment employees
- Liaise with the Cruise Director and Entertainment Team regarding involvement in shows/presentations
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback to support appraisals and development
- Coordinate onboarding and handover of new team members; ensure consistency in departmental expectations
- Establish candidates for relief and train successors in all responsibilities
- Manage time and attendance of own and direct reports in accordance with MLC regulations and company procedures
- Assist with greeter duties on port arrival and crowd control
- Assist during Embarkation and Disembarkation procedures under the supervision of the Guest Relations Manager
- Manage guest flow during tendering; note that the Marine Department holds safety responsibility during tendering
- Serve as main contact for Guest Entertainers and Enrichment Presenters; oversee their onboard experience from embarkation to disembarkation, arrange cabins, letters, schedules, rehearsals, travel details, visa needs, and billing; escort talent on and off the ship
- Review guest feedback daily and follow up to address concerns and reinforce a positive onboard experience
- Know, follow, and enforce all corporate policies and procedures; apply environmental policies
- Develop and, with shore-side approval, implement activity programming sensitive to guest demographics and itinerary fluctuations
- Attend mandatory safety drills
- Perform other duties as assigned and, with approval, step up as Cruise Director during emergencies
- Perform related duties as required by the Cruise Director
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Two years college or better preferred; minimum of 2 years’ experience in resort, shipboard, entertainment, or recreational industry
- 1-2 years’ experience as a performer
- 45-minute guest entertainer quality show to perform in the Cabaret Lounge
- Master of Ceremony or professional entertainment experience and skills
- Experience with microphone technique in front of large groups
- Must complete at least 2 contracts as a Lead Performer with a Performance Appraisal rating of proficient or above; demonstrated leadership skills
- No disciplinary action on file for the last 12 months
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret procedures
- Ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to present information and respond to questions
- Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred
