Peabody has the largest social landlord profile of high-risk buildings in the UK, representing over 15,000 homes across a diverse and complex portfolio. As our Assistant Director of Building Safety, you’ll provide strategic oversight and assurance for all higher-risk buildings, ensuring full compliance with the Building Safety Act and related legislation. This pivotal role is about safeguarding lives, embedding a culture of safety excellence, and driving innovation in building safety management.
What you’ll do
* Lead the delivery of full compliance with the Building Safety Act and the Social Housing Regulator’s standards across all higher-risk residential buildings.
* Oversee preparation, submission, and maintenance of safety case reports and building assessment certificates.
* Champion resident engagement and transparent communication on all safety matters.
* Direct regular safety assessments, audits, and inspections, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated, and resolved.
* Develop and maintain a robust training and competency framework for all relevant colleagues and supply chain partners.
* Manage mandatory occurrence reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
* Influence internal policy and industry best practice, representing Peabody with housing associations, regulators, and professional bodies.
* Ensure structural safety for all buildings over 11m and support delivery of structural surveys and risk assessments.
What you’ll need
* Significant experience in building safety, fire safety, or a related discipline, ideally within a large housing association.
* Proven expertise managing higher-risk buildings in line with the Building Safety Act, including safety case reporting and certification processes.
* A relevant degree or professional qualification (e.g., engineering, surveying, fire safety) and recognised certifications such as NEBOSH, RICS, IFE, or equivalent.
* Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act, secondary legislation, and social housing regulatory standards.
* Demonstrable experience in policy development, risk management, and mandatory occurrence reporting.
* Exceptional leadership and mentoring skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, with the ability to work confidently with residents, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Flexibility to travel and attend site visits, meetings, and occasional out-of-hours commitments.
