Job Description:
Associate / Associate Director (Building Services)
RPS is currently seeking an Associate / Associate Director. This role will cover the Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and London office locations. The team is UK based and spread across these locations.
About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple sectors, including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, data centres, energy, and more. We focus on balancing form and function while addressing sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from concept through detailed drawings, supported by expertise spanning decades, industries, and disciplines.
What you’ll be doing: This is an exciting opportunity for career progression as an Associate / Associate Director in our industry-leading team. You will work with team leaders and support staff to optimise resources and manage project finances.
Duties Include:
- Manage engineering resources and project finances across the Building Services Group, including mechanical, electrical, utilities, BIM, energy, and BREEAM teams.
- Support growth and profitability of the MEP cost centre by managing operational delivery and bidding processes.
- Plan, review, and deliver multidisciplinary projects meeting client requirements and deadlines.
- Lead financial performance and strategic initiatives within the offices.
- Ensure active, accurate financial management to meet budgets and KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with RPS Terms and Conditions and approval of tenders.
- Manage resources to achieve profit margins.
- Provide technical leadership and support technological improvements.
- Oversee project delivery, scope, and fee proposals, including variations and invoicing.
- Develop client relationships and support business development initiatives.
- Lead proposals and bids, collaborating across the business.
- Identify and support wider business development activities, including market intelligence and tenders.
- Assist in strategic planning and business development efforts.
- Ensure compliance with the IMS system within the MEP group and manage changes.
- Monitor and analyse monthly financial data.
- Ensure staff safety with appropriate PPE.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as required.
Who we’re looking for: The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience from a consultancy or contracting background in building services design (mechanical and electrical).
- An engineering degree, ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
- Approximately 10 years of industry experience, with leadership experience in managing teams and projects.
- A desire to focus on internal operations rather than external client business development.
What’s in it for you? We support professional development with accredited training, clear career pathways, and a diverse, inclusive environment that values different perspectives. We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid and remote options.
What happens next? Interested candidates should apply, and all applications will be considered. For more details, contact Parv Sandhu at RPS.
