Associate / Associate Director, Environmental (EIA) Consultant - UK Wide at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

We are seeking an experienced environmental professional to join our Environmental Consents nationwide team. This role is strategic, focusing on identifying, winning and delivering multi-disciplinary inputs for energy projects for a wide client base, contributing to projects that support the UK’s Net Zero commitments.

What you will do

As an Associate Director you will work with a range of technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple sectors to direct and lead environmental teams and inputs to project designs and assessments. You will influence and deliver environmental elements of engineering projects, including recruitment, bidding, project team management, project delivery and financial management. You will work to improve environmental performance across a diverse range of projects.

  • Play a key role in the expansion and diversification of our offer in the water sector, working with sector leads and client account managers to provide thought leadership and win new business
  • Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Collaborate with diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
  • Lead large, complex projects with oversight of technical, quality, commercial and health and safety performance
  • Build client relationships and identify opportunities for resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery
  • Proactively develop new client relationships and pursue opportunities for marketing services and cross-selling, including presenting at conferences for WSP
  • Undertake activities to secure new work, including developing proposals for complex opportunities, delivering strategic bids and framework opportunities, and pursuing business development opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of innovative techniques (e.g., Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA) to shape our business
  • Drive performance improvement and career development across the team
  • Promote team culture and act as a go-to person within the wider team, supporting problem solving and achievement of goals

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Relevant environmental or planning degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience in EIA delivery for major water schemes
  • Familiarity with other consenting processes such as Habitats Regulations Assessments, SSSI consents
  • Thorough knowledge of a diverse range of environmental issues
  • Proven line management experience
  • Proven track record of developing and upskilling internal teams
  • Evidence of successfully driving business growth
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
