Job TitleAssociate Director - Building Safety at Canary Wharf GroupDepartment: Health, Safety & WellbeingCompany: Canary Wharf Management LimitedReporting to: Director - Health, Safety & WellbeingJob SummaryTo act as the lead competent person in the implementation and management of the company processes and procedures under the Building Safety Act 2022 and to protect the interests, business, assets and wellbeing of Canary Wharf Group, its tenants, employees, and the general public from harm and risk to their health, safety and welfare. Under the Building Safety Act 2022 there are numerous new requirements placed against the organisation which we could be prosecuted against if we fail to deliver. This role will provide strategic leadership and assurance to the organisation that we are meeting our statutory obligations under the new Act.Salary: £95,000 - £105,000 (dependent on experience)Closing Date: 20 October 2025Main ResponsibilitiesAct as the principal subject matter expert for the Building Safety Act (BSA) across the Group and provide strategic direction and leadership on BSA-related work.Work alongside the Accountable Person and Residential Management teams to implement consistent processes and procedures in line with the BSA.Oversee the day-to-day running of the CWG Building Safety team and, where required, the CWM H&S team, including allocating work activities and line management responsibility for direct reports.Own the CWG Building Safety Management System and procedures and ensure systems are in place to meet statutory requirements.Organise regular audits of processes and procedures relating to the BSA and report on potential risks and non-conformances in quarterly Board reports.Support the Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing to identify areas for improvement and implement processes to mitigate risks.Support the Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing with the Building Safety Strategy implementation and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.Provide advice, guidance and information relating to health, safety and welfare, based on knowledge of legislation, best practice and professional guidance.Collaborate with the CWC Associate Director of Health and Safety to identify shared processes, procedures and systems for consistent management of Building Safety Act compliance.Monitor compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, statutory H&S requirements and ISO 45001; support the Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to implement the compliance management system.Identify and assess risks related to fire, health, safety and environment and determine actions to be implemented.Maintain relationships with external stakeholders (tenants, BSR, LBTH, LFB/LFEPA, insurers and others) for consultation on health and safety matters.Establish and review departmental goals and objectives, and report performance to the CWM & CWC Managing Directors.Undertake special projects or other duties as allocated by the Managing Directors and deputise for the Director as required.Ensure continued certification of a BSA H&S Management System via a quality assurance programme, monitoring effectiveness and conformance with the Group Health and Safety policy.Oversee the Mandatory Occurrence reporting process under the BSA and support investigations of accidents as directed.Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing.Person SpecificationLevel 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management (CIOB) or NEBOSH diploma or equivalent (essential).Strategic experience in a Senior Leadership role.CMIOSH (or other relevant accreditation) desirable.Relevant experience in Health and Safety with proven leadership of teams.Excellent knowledge/experience with the Building Safety Act 2022.Experience in H&S within a corporate environment, fire safety and residential buildings.Fire safety qualification desirable.Ability to manage multiple complex projects and produce concise reports.Capability to implement strategy through policy and procedures.Budget management experience.Flexible, diplomatic, and able to constructively challenge practices.Excellent communication and organisational skills.Proficient in basic computer skills.Health, Safety and Welfare ResponsibilitiesAll staff are required to take reasonable care for their health and safety and that of others, and to follow all guidance and instructions.
