The Role

We are seeking an ambitious and commercially-minded Associate Director – Building Surveying to lead a small, high-performing team of remote-based surveyors in the South. Reporting to the Building Surveying Director, you’ll be instrumental in delivering core services, managing key projects, and driving departmental growth — with a focus on residential property.

This role offers true influence, visibility, and the chance to help shape a growing department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Building Surveyors to deliver professional consultancy services across the South UK.
  • Support recruitment and staff development while driving team performance and growth.
  • Deliver a full range of surveying services, including:
  • Defect analysis and reporting
  • Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Project Management / Contract Administration (projects £50k–£3m+)
  • Principal Designer duties under CDM
  • Reinstatement Cost Assessments (RCAs)
  • Condition surveys across all property types
  • Building Height Surveys and reports under the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Schedules of Dilapidations and related negotiations
  • Party Wall advice (desirable but not essential)
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external clients to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Contribute to business development, service improvement, training, and mentoring of APC candidates.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • MRICS qualified, with a minimum of 5+ years post-qualification experience.
  • A natural leader, with a proven track record in managing or mentoring teams.
  • Commercially focused, with strong client-facing and business development abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building pathology, and property legislation.
  • Experience in the residential property management sector (advantageous).
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing your own workload and team pipeline.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional presentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD skills are a plus.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence required.
