We are seeking an Associate Director - Mechanical Engineering to lead the mechanical design team for Egis Transportation in the UK, support growth of mechanical design services in the UK and internationally across a range of projects, and ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, client requirements, legislation, company standards, and client procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support growth of the Egis team, recruit technical staff and mentor junior engineers.
  • Act as Mechanical CRE within rail projects; be responsible for the technical mechanical deliverables across the project.
  • Plan and coordinate activities of the mechanical design team (CAD/BIM, engineers, expert resources).
  • Liaise with client teams, represent design teams in meetings, provide technical opinion or support as needed.
  • Proactively review design documentation to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
  • Review, evaluate and implement industry standards to ensure compliance of engineering deliverables (quality).
  • Coordinate the quality aspects of mechanical sub-systems deliverables as per the project Quality Management plan.
  • Review and approve deliverables where applicable; act as a technical control level across projects.
  • Maintain and develop competency of the team within the discipline (competency assessments, professional reviews, training plans, mentoring).
  • Support the senior team in growing the technical capability of the discipline/business.
  • Support the senior team to implement efficient processes to manage safety assurance (including CDM, CSM-RA and interoperability) and V&V technical assurance.
  • Promote sustainable design and development (Eco-Design) and encourage innovation.

  • Bidding opportunities across the UK and international business to grow revenue and capability.
  • Projects for multiple commissions across the UK and international business.
  • Technical Lead for specific assignments or projects with responsibility for all EDC production activities and outputs.

Qualifications

Essential
  • BSc or equivalent in a numerate, scientific or engineering subject.
  • Chartered Engineer/Technician membership or equivalent professional status.
  • Experience as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) / Engineering Manager (CEM) in major infrastructure/transportation projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time to programme.
  • Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience of working in an engineering production environment.
  • Good knowledge of UK design standards (Network Rail, HS2, TfL, National Highways).
  • Strong management skills to support, mentor and animate a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Good knowledge of regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of railway infrastructure/Highways systems and operating requirements.
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary work within rail or Highways environments.
  • Experience in design-and-build projects.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary design approaches and design stage gates.
  • Experience working with offshore global design production centres.
  • Understanding of environmental issues, including low-carbon design.
  • Understanding BIM standards, design integration procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance practices.
