OverviewAssociate Director MEP Commissioning - London - £ competitive packageA leading MEP Commissioning Management consultancy is urgently seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer who has the experience and desire to take on this challenging and rewarding AD role. We need someone who is capable of running a business unit commercially and who has an understanding of commissioning. This role requires a great leader of people who has super client facing skills and is capable of winning work.Responsibilities Effectively develop and manage the commissioning service internally and within the key account. Promote cross selling amongst staff and related companies; liaise closely with company directors. Ensure projects are delivered safely, without harm to staff or others affected by work. Act as a key point of client contact; actively engage with clients to identify new opportunities and scope within existing and planned projects. Develop innovative tender solutions, documents and fees; promote the company\'s technical abilities through thought leadership. Utilise the company\'s management systems to achieve primary objectives; manage staff utilisation and expenses to achieve forecast profit levels. Lead and manage a team to achieve high performance through open engagement and support; work diligently, efficiently and professionally at all times. Collaborate with project team members on site and in office; build internal relationships and manage activities to enhance company efficiency. Provide positive management and set an example to team members; report performance issues to line management. Actively participate in winning work processes; identify strengths, problem areas and develop performance improvement plans. Lead business and budget planning; ensure commissioning processes deliver systems that work to design requirements. Provide consultative advice on commissioning strategies, test scripts, scopes of work and related documentation. Lead, manage and mentor junior staff; ensure project delivery quality aligns with client expectations. Forecast staffing requirements; manage recruitment needs; ensure resources on projects are controlled and utilised. Maintain ISO 9001 and 14001 quality and environmental systems; manage risks, safety and compliance. Progress all sales opportunities; develop and pursue new and existing sales leads; manage bid processes to deliver high-quality, commercially viable bids. Support client presentations and co-ordinate input from other teams; assist in marketing and corporate events. Attend project and internal meetings; provide technical input during client discussions of a technical nature. Prepare high-quality content for marketing; maintain professional image in all communications; promote a strong, ethical team culture. Develop standard in-house documents and guides; attend and present at project review meetings; stay updated on design trends and technologies. Provide technical risk advice to clients; manage contractual and financial aspects including fees, changes and invoicing; pursue outstanding debtors (target Maintain project documentation, timesheets, expenses and performance records; conduct staff appraisals and CPD activities. Recruit new team members (subject to approval); manage direct reports in respect of time and expense; sign off timesheets and expenses. Contribute to marketing materials and external communications; develop training and succession plans; support ongoing development of the company\'s management systems. Contract management: track fee status, deliverables, and change orders; ensure client deliverables and profit targets are met; manage post-contract reviews and client feedback. Maintain awareness of commissioning industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, BSRIA, LEED, WELL, BREEAM) and adapt to changes as required. Foster relationships with clients outside project environments; assist in tender development and ensure timely reporting and sign-off of reports.
Qualifications and Experience Ideally registered as a Professional or Chartered Engineer; ideally an engineering degree or equivalent qualification. Demonstrable in‑industry technical experience; 10 years+ of industry experience within Project Management/Commissioning Management. Experience in managing direct reports and multiple projects; specific relevant technical expertise.
Core Competencies and Attributes Strong leadership, communication and client-facing skills; ability to win work and lead a team. Detailed technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office including Project. Creativity, problem-solving, multi-tasking, deadline-focused, collaborative, flexible; high attention to detail.
