OverviewAssociate Director - Sustainability - Local Government sector role at Mace. This is a leadership position serving as the Responsible Business lead for the Local Government sector in the UK, based in the UK. The role focuses on delivering purpose-led impacts in sustainability, decarbonisation, climate change, biodiversity and social value for local government clients.You’ll Be Responsible ForLeading sustainability and social value across the Local Government Sector, and working closely with the Market lead for Cities and Places to set strategy and deliver the business plansAdding value to the business unit through integration of RB (particularly social value) into Local Government bid win themes, and using RB topics to support other CoE service lines, for example retrofit delivery programmesDriving service excellence and client satisfaction, assuring standards and processes across the Sector, delivering purpose-led and measurable outcomes for clients, with a particular focus on decarbonisation, climate change, biodiversity and social valueDriving revenue from Responsible Business services and leading work winning with clients across UK public sector projects and programmesOversight and awareness of the financial performance of Responsible Business consultancy services, ensuring commercial performance aligns with revenue, margin and utilisation targetsEnhancing the Mace consultancy service offers, developing market differentiators, and identifying and bringing new service offers and products to marketIdentifying, coaching and mentoring talent; supporting professional and career development, while building capability in the regional hubWorking collaboratively with other Mace CoEs to help integrate responsible business outcomes into all service linesRepresenting the company in public forums and events to raise the profile of Mace and Responsible Business servicesChampioning the business unit’s contribution to the delivery of the Mace 2026 business strategy priorities, including Pursuit of a Sustainable World to maximise carbon impact, social value, and biodiversity outcomesYour Technical ExpertiseMastery in delivery of sustainability and social value servicesExperience across the UK public sectorAwareness of contract and commercial proceduresExcellent communication skills (written, verbal & presentational) with ability to assure service delivery and provide meaningful insightsStrong problem-solving skillsUp to date on key tools available in the service delivery arenaExternal networking, collaboration & business development skills; may represent the business on professional institutions or industry-wide committees/boardsAbout YouAble to engage, motivate and coach others at all levels, modelling inclusive leadershipAble to persuade and influence at all levels, member of Regional Hub leadership, and able to delegate effectivelyAble to build and lead high performing teamsAble to navigate and manage across a matrix organisationAble to navigate politics and cultural sensitivitiesHave high levels of empathyAble to deal with conflicting demands and juggle prioritiesCurious and able to respond to changing market demands and opportunitiesEmployment detailsSeniority level: Not ApplicableEmployment type: Full-timeJob function: OtherIndustries: Construction
