WSP is a leading engineering and environmental professional services consultancy delivering landmark projects across the UK nuclear sector. This role is part of the Environmental Consents team in London and focuses on navigating the consenting landscape for nuclear projects, delivering strategic planning, environmental advice, and technical studies. Responsibilities
Support nuclear projects through strategic planning, environmental advice, and technical studies, contributing to major developments such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, Sellafield, and related programmes. Deliver services including planning applications, EIAs, permitting and compliance, feasibility studies, and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries. Lead and manage multi-disciplinary inputs for nuclear projects, ensuring delivery across technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects. Grow our nuclear sector offer by collaborating with sector leads and client account managers to drive thought leadership and win new business. Provide environmental advice to clients, project managers, and colleagues; promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement. Build strong client relationships, identify opportunities to support project strategy, resourcing and delivery, and undertake activities to secure new work (proposals, bids, and framework opportunities). Champion innovation through approaches such as Digital EIA, Technical Excellence and Future Ready; drive performance improvement and career development across the team. Promote an inclusive and positive team environment, acting as a trusted advisor and mentor; ensure health and safety and align with WSP values. Contribute to the success of the WSP business strategy with self-motivation and goal alignment to the role, team, and projects.
Qualifications
Relevant environmental or planning degree (or equivalent experience), with chartered status or working toward chartership. Experience delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for nuclear projects under UK planning regimes (e.g., Town and Country Planning Act, EIADR, Planning Act 2008); familiarity with Environmental Permitting Regulations (beneficial). Familiarity with consenting processes for nuclear projects, including Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) and Environmental Permit applications; understanding of integration with the planning system and EIA. Ability to lead client communications and maintain relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and the public; strong public consultation and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Knowledge of current environmental and planning policy trends; excellent written and verbal communication, report writing and review, detail-orientation, and quality assurance. Proven line management experience and a track record of developing internal teams. Evidence of contributing to strategic planning, winning new work through bids and proposals, and enhancing reputation in the nuclear sector.
