The Project: Working for Mace MEP, the Mechanical & Electrical subcontractor on a multi-million pound project in Central London.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of MEP services on projects to the agreed outcomes for time, budget, safety and quality requirements.
  • Drive the delivery of high-quality, time-efficient and profitable delivery, while providing leadership and accountability for compliance, governance, assurance, and the management of teams of technical and construction staff. Build and retain working relationships with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and drive the MEP team on the project with clear direction, guidance and compliance with Mace standards.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of the MEP services including management of the programme, health, safety and wellbeing, quality and commissioning of the project.
  • Partner with key project stakeholders, forming strong working relationships with the client, consultants, trade contractors and other team leaders.
  • Drive tendering processes and provide expert technical and commercial support to bid teams and sector leadership/bid leads. Identify and agree resource needs.
  • Contribute to procurement strategies and ensure specialist packages are procured against the agreed scope and budget.
  • Direct initial contract and scope reviews, assist in budgets, value engineering, schedules and trade contracts; support commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Input into project strategic plans aligned to Mace frameworks and priorities (e.g., prefabrication, commissioning, safety).
  • Direct design reviews, ensuring compliance, coordination, and completeness, including embodied carbon and operational energy considerations aligned to RIBA and BSRIA frameworks.
  • Drive delivery strategies and programmes for project phases; develop commissioning strategies in line with Mace standards.
  • Use digital tools to conduct productivity assessments, identify trends and risks, and drive project close-out to a high standard (e.g., commissioning, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, client training).
  • Proactively identify risks and develop mitigation plans; support continuous improvement and lessons learned.
  • Manage, influence and negotiate with key senior stakeholders (up to c-suite). Lead large teams and foster a continuous improvement culture.
  • Provide performance management, technical and career development coaching.
  • Collaborate towards net zero carbon transition, identifying and managing associated emissions reductions during delivery.

Qualifications

  • Trade/technical apprenticeship or graduate development programme.
  • Formal engineering training (HNC, HND, BTEC or equivalent).
  • SMSTS and CSCS card.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering systems, design standards, installation techniques, prefabrication and commissioning requirements to manage the project team from tender through to contract completion.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction elements, sequencing and dependencies; ability to coordinate with other work packages.
  • Advanced knowledge of planning processes, critical path, tasks/works scheduling and commissioning activities for pre-construction through to practical completion.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial management, procurement processes, change control, programme impact, risk and commercial forecasting.
  • Advanced knowledge of health, safety and welfare, including working from height, electrical safety, fire safety, logistics and lifting.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance and commissioning of single systems and integration of systems (e.g., BMS, IST) to complete the project on programme.

  • Proficiency in building services or a specified engineering discipline.
