The Role
We are looking for a high-performing, highly connected Business Development Director to join our senior commercial team and play a pivotal role in driving WePlay’s next stage of growth.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who lives and breathes commercial strategy, has a deep network in the global sports marketing space, and thrives on closing high-value deals. You’ll report into the Global Head of Commercial—with the autonomy to shape and lead your approach.
You’ll be selling into an agency that’s not only award-winning but continually levelling up—introducing new products, services, and innovations that offer best-in-class solutions for our clients. If you’re hungry to be part of something bold, fast-moving, and commercially focused, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead new business efforts across EMEA and beyond—identifying opportunities, developing relationships, and winning high-impact clients.
- Build and execute a 1–3 year growth strategy with clear KPIs and milestones.
- Leverage your senior-level network to generate meetings, RFPs, and closed deals with leading brands, rights holders, and properties.
- Work closely with our strategy and creative teams to shape compelling, insight-driven pitch decks and proposals.
- Drive awareness and interest in our evolving services—helping clients unlock value through new business units launching in 2025 and beyond.
- Deliver seven-figure annual revenue targets in line with our ambitious growth plans.
- Champion a best-in-class sales experience—setting the standard for professionalism, creativity, and impact at every stage of the funnel.
- Represent WePlay at global events, industry summits, and networking opportunities.
- Collaborate cross-market with colleagues in the UK, Switzerland, US, and Middle East.
About You
- 15+ years of experience in business development or commercial leadership within sport, marketing, or media.
- A proven track record of selling services and closing large, strategic partnerships.
- Deep knowledge of the sports marketing landscape—and a strong network across brands, rights holders, and C-level stakeholders.
- A commercially minded leader who thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments.
- Passionate about creative, data-led marketing services and confident pitching bold ideas.
- Comfortable navigating international markets, with flexible availability for global travel.
- Based in or happy to work from London or Switzerland, with hybrid flexibility.
About the Benefits
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
- Flexible working environment.
- 30 days of holiday per year, plus standard Bank Holidays.
- Christmas closure for holidays
- Access to WePlay Academy Training and external knowledge shares.
- Monthly socials and industry event access.
- Enhanced parental leave policies.
- Mental wellness support, including access to the Calm App
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
WePlay is deeply committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone can thrive. We actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds - especially those underrepresented in our industry.
If this role excites you, but you don’t meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. The right mindset, ambition, passion and willingness to learn matters just as much as experience.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for this role without regard to age, disability, gender identity, ethnic background, marital status, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
