Overview
Business Development Director role at Keltbray. Keltbray Group seeks an experienced business development professional with strong relationships with UK and Ireland Tier 1 contractors and clients, with a focus on opportunities outside London to support Keltbray’s expansion into national infrastructure markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team focused on all elements of business development, tendering and winning work.
- Evaluate market sectors, select opportunities and pursue teaming both within the UK and mainland Europe.
- Provide strategic direction, review PQQs and tenders to achieve optimal scoring and develop the team.
- Research to support the business plan and periodic reviews of current market sectors; identify new sectors to build a resilient and diverse pipeline.
- Identify opportunities that support revenue and margin targets, balancing risk and reward and differentiating from competition.
- Monitor market trends to identify risks with mitigation measures; own tendering budget, reporting and forecasting.
- Engage with clients (existing and new) to understand future pipeline and influence procurement routes to balance risk and align with company strategy when projects come to market.
- Promote the organisation to clients and partners with clear capability, capacity and differentiators; engage with industry bodies as required.
- Maintain client relationships throughout the lifecycle of opportunities to provide continuity and a direct point of contact.
- Lead opportunity evaluation, including development of Tender Pursuit Plans and competitor analysis; manage cost of tender investment vs likely return.
- Identify and implement appropriate teaming strategies for new markets and larger projects.
- Accountability for prequalification (PQQ): kick-off meetings, regular compliance reviews, and coordinating responses with wider functions.
- Oversee tender processes, including qualitative input, peer reviews and a clear methodology to maximise scoring.
- Coordinate resources including direct resources (BD managers/directors) and submissions teams; engage wider departments as needed.
- Capture lessons learned from live projects and apply best practices to tenders.
- Review and implement best practices across strategy, client engagement, PQQ and Tender processes to maximise successful outcomes.
- Track win rates and strive for improvements in PQQ and Tender success rates.
- Support marketing collateral to clients, partners and the wider supply chain; assist with awards submissions and innovation within submissions; pursue acquisition opportunities where applicable.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Proven track record as a business development professional with strong relationships with UK & Ireland Tier 1 contractors and clients.
- Experience managing a team through the business development, tendering and winning processes.
- Experience evaluating market sectors, selecting opportunities and teaming; ability to provide strategic direction and review tenders to achieve high scores.
- Strong project and budget management skills, including tender budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Excellent client engagement, negotiation and industry networking capabilities.
- Experience with PQQs, tenders, bid leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
