Job Description

The Coalition is a non-profit, cross-industry collaboration which aims to reset frozen food temperature standards, globally, to reduce greenhouse gases and lower supply chain costs. This sustainability initiative was founded in 2023 and is now growing in size and scope. It has over 50 members including household names in food production, storage, transport, and retail.

Recognising that a change in global temperature standards requires a collective effort, the Coalition brings together key players from across the global food supply chain to collaborate and create the evidence base for a move from -18°C to -15°C.


Location: Remote but with travel to London [the Coalition is a UK legal entity] and relevant global events required.


Role Overview

The CEO/Managing Director will provide visionary leadership and operational oversight for the Coalition. Working closely with the Board, Advisory Council and Secretariat, the CEO/MD will be responsible for setting and executing the Coalition’s strategic direction, ensuring operational excellence, driving membership growth, securing financial sustainability, and representing the coalition to key external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision:

-Ensure Coalition delivers on its overarching mission to achieve global change in the temperature frozen goods are stored at moved at, and that progress is made across key workstreams, including pilots and baseline/Every Degree Counts.


Governance:

-Secure Board and Advisory Council approval for key strategic plans and initiatives.

-Oversee recruitment and onboarding of Secretariat personnel and supporting service providers, with Board oversight.

-Maintain regular, transparent communication with the Board, providing updates on staffing, projects, timelines, and organisational progress.


Financial Stewardship and Fundraising:

-Develop a robust fundraising and membership fee model for the Coalition (2026–2031) in collaboration with the Board and Secretariat.

-Ensure financial sustainability, healthy cash flow, and appropriate reserves.

-Oversee financial reporting to funders and implement the approved membership fee structure.

-Monitor the approved budget and ensure efficient resource utilisation and financial integrity.


Operational Oversight:

-Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Coalition and Secretariat, ensuring organisational stability and long-term success.

-Lead the implementation of systems, processes, and culture to support sustainable growth and impact.


Membership Strategy and Engagement:

-Design and implement a membership acquisition strategy focused on attracting new, high-impact members, with a priority on strategically important but underrepresented but priority geographies (such as Brazil and China) and sectors (such as retailers and food manufacturers).

-Promote the Coalition's mission, programs, partners, and members to key stakeholders.

-Maintain strong engagement with existing members and ensure consistent communication and collaboration throughout the year.


External relations and representation:

-Serve as the Coalition’s chief spokesperson, representing the organisation at public events, conferences, and high-level partnership meetings.

-Approve and oversee the implementation of the Coalition’s communication strategy to ensure alignment with organisational goals.


Candidate Profile

-Proven experience in senior executive leadership, ideally within coalitions, NGOs, or mission-driven membership organisations.

-Strong track record of organisational growth, governance development, and stakeholder engagement.

-Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire.

-Demonstrated expertise in fundraising, financial management, and building cross-sector partnerships.

-Knowledge of the sector e.g. logistics, food systems, sustainability, cold chain infrastructure.
