Job Summary
As a Client Finance Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the Finances for multiple accounts by partnering with other finance team members, Client/Scientific Services teams, and the Shared Service Center (SSC) in managing and ensuring the financial integrity of client finances. This is a hands-on role, supporting the Client Finance Team in driving growth and profitability for the business and ensuring financial controls and policies are in place and followed.
Responsibilities
- Financial Analysis: Manage multiple accounts, across one client or many, working with the Account and Scientific Leads to review and analyse project spending through project life cycle – identifying areas of risk, exposure, etc.
- Identify mis-codings and errors by reviewing time and expenses for projects.
- Review all scopes of work, including estimates, to ensure accuracy and pricing is appropriate to the defined scope before client approval.
- Prepare invoicing information based on client billing terms; provide data to generate and distribute client invoices.
- Review Account Receivable Aging and Unbilled Accounts Receivable reports to identify billing issues, working with Client Services to resolve.
- Prepare recurring project management reports and meet with Client Services to review status of projects for invoicing and reconciliation needs.
- Work with Client Service Lead to ensure all forecasting is up to date, providing the Pod Finance Lead with the reasoning behind any changes or adjustments.
- Ensure monthly revenue recognition policy is followed.
- Work with the Financial Analyst to identify and reconcile projects when completed, analysing them in accordance with SOW terms and minimising fees in suspense/exposure.
- Research and resolve financial issues on the account as they occur, involving your Pod Finance Lead as needed.
- Assist in Quarterly Sarbanes-Oxley audits of internal financial processes.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports for client service teams and clients.
- Ensure we are always audit ready and in compliance – raising red flags as it relates to processes, backup, etc.
Team and Client Relations
- Serve as liaison between Client Services team and Finance, consulting with the Pod Finance Lead if needed.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy of financials as they relate to the client to support client relationships.
- Lead recurring finance team meetings with appropriate attendees and effective agendas.
- Participate in regular internal and client meetings, providing direction where appropriate.
- Follow up with Client Services on project issues (fees in suspense, billing concerns, etc.) and provide potential solutions.
- Review and approve client invoices for processing and answer client questions regarding projects.
- Prepare client-reported reports with accuracy and adherence to client guidelines.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Identify risks associated with specific projects, contract approvals, budget-to-actual variances, and other client accounting issues.
- Understand project needs and solutions to minimise risk and exposure.
- Track unbilled balances and manage billings with cash flow, opening/closing projects based on lifecycle status.
- Review fees in suspense and analyse each project.
- Complete month-end close procedures, confirming revenue by project for each account.
- Review financial processes and provide improvement recommendations where applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Skill Sets
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting.
- 6 years of experience in an equivalent role.
- High accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and ensure timely, accurate reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to adapt communication style to audience and situation.
- Understanding of cross-functional roles and best practices for collaboration with teams.
- Understanding of the role of finance in supporting Client Services.
- Time management, initiative, and the ability to mentor junior staff.
- Ability to communicate with various levels of management.
- Proactive, with a focus on continuous improvement and development of colleagues.
