Main duties of the job

As Clinical Director of Research, you will:

·Provide strategic leadership to grow clinical research capacity and capability across Barts Health, particularly for the delivery of clinical trials

·Oversee and support clinical research leads and infrastructure across our hospitals and research centres.

·Act as a key link between Barts Health, QM, and wider partners to ensure strong collaboration and delivery of our joint research strategy.

·Promote and embed a culture where research is part of everyday clinical practice, benefiting patients and staff alike.

·Lead on major research funding opportunities and represent Barts Health at regional, national and international levels.

·Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion, patient and public engagement, and sustainability within research.

·Support governance and high-quality delivery of both commercial and non-commercial research projects.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Higher degree, MB BS or equivalent
  • PhD or equivalent formal research training
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Relevant experience in clinical research governance and management
  • A track record in delivering commercial and non-commercial clinical research to the highest standards and to current regulatory requirements
  • Publishing experience in peer review and professional journals
  • Experience of delivering MHRA-regulated studies, for example Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) or similar
  • Experience of leading large, collaborative applications for research funding
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of developing and delivering strategy, with particular experience in areas including equality, diversity and inclusion, patient and public inclusion and engagement, patient safety etc.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Extensive knowledge of the current regulatory framework for clinical research and of the organisations responsible in the UK for delivering this
  • Knowledge of research ethics and the local and national organisations that deliver this
  • Knowledge of public and patient involvement in research
  • Extensive knowledge of the research funding landscape
