The Role

We are seeking a Commercial Contracts Director to take ownership of the company’s contract portfolio and act as the key escalation point for all commercial contract management decision-making. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you will provide clarity, direction, and decisive action across projects, ensuring obligations are met, risks are managed, and opportunities are maximised.

You Will

  • Lead commercial management of the existing heat network contract portfolio, ensuring compliance, profitability, and performance
  • Act as the primary escalation point for all commercial and contractual issues, claims, and disputes
  • Collaborate closely with technical, design, and operations teams to validate variations, cost impacts, and ensure alignment with system performance targets
  • Oversee billing, tariff, and pricing governance in line with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier contracts, ensuring terms, liabilities, and performance obligations are met
  • Proactively identify and mitigate commercial risks linked to network delivery, service levels, and regulatory changes
  • Drive continuous improvement in contract templates, negotiation standards, and commercial best practice across the business

Requirements

  • Proven background in commercial contracts management, ideally from a Quantity Surveyor or Contract Manager route
  • Direct experience within heat networks, energy infrastructure, or relevant utilities is essential
  • Strong contractual and commercial acumen, with a proven ability to interpret and apply complex agreements
  • Track record of providing leadership, resolving escalated issues, and driving positive outcomes
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to act as the final point of decision-making
