Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director – Female Personality Disorders role at Cygnet. Full-time position with split duties as Medical Director (0.2 WTE) and Consultant Psychiatrist (0.8 WTE) based at Cygnet Nield House, Crewe, Cheshire. The ward focuses on female personality disorders with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating; the ward will transition to personality disorders only.
Responsibilities
- As Medical Director: oversee clinical care for inpatients, lead on clinical practice and operational excellence, supervise medical staff, ensure quality and compliance with standards and regulations, support whole-person treatment with the multidisciplinary team, recruit and retain medical staff, participate in hospital governance and CQC outcomes, chair medical advisory committee meetings, and liaise with the Responsible Officer and Regional Medical Director on fitness to practice issues.
- As Consultant Psychiatrist: lead high-quality care for Clarion Ward, act as a positive role model, manage patient treatment plans with the MDT, assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations, perform investigations, diagnoses and treatments, conduct ward rounds and clinical audits, implement risk assessment and governance, supervise Mental Health Act tribunal reports, liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave, maintain patient records, and contribute to CPD and academic activities.
Qualifications
- Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
- Specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
- Experience in General Adult Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis
- Knowledgeable of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related codes
- Strong communication skills for interviewing, assessing, treating patients and documenting medical notes
- Committed to continuous professional development and able to work in a multidisciplinary team
- MRCPsych or equivalent
