An exciting opportunity has become available in the North London Cardiac Operational Delivery Network for a Deputy Clinical Director, with a commitment of 1 PA equivalent to 0.1 WTE/4 hours per week, on a 12-month fixed term basis. The role involves delivering significant change across cardiology services in the region.
North London serves a diverse population of 6 million people across 23 hospitals, including 4 tertiary specialist cardiac centres and 19 district general hospitals. The region is divided into three Integrated Care Boards supporting over one hundred primary care networks. The network works closely with NHS Trusts, clinicians, allied healthcare professionals, ICBs, and PCN partners to implement a population health approach aimed at reducing health inequalities, sharing best practices, and optimizing pathways across North London.
Main duties of the job
Working with the NLCODN Manager and Project Management team, the Deputy Clinical Director will support the Clinical Director in providing professional and clinical leadership and strategic guidance, including:
- Ensuring governance and strategic oversight of the NLCODN.
- Promoting equity of access, quality, and patient experience across the region.
- Supporting the delivery of NHS 'three shifts': analogue to digital, hospital to community care, and treatment to prevention.

Job responsibilities
This part-time, fixed-term role (equivalent to 0.05 WTE/1 PA/4 hours per week) involves:
- Supporting the Clinical Director in clinical and professional leadership across the NLCODN.
- Providing strategic guidance to ensure equitable access, quality, and patient flow management.
- Facilitating provider partnership working and resolving differing views.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of the NLCODN annual plan in collaboration with ICBs.
- Acting as Deputy Chair of the NLCODN steering group and attending bi-monthly meetings.
- Leading on clinical governance, quality improvement, and adherence to standards.
- Representing the NLCODN with external stakeholders, including regional and national leaders.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered clinical practitioner (medical) with current registration.
- Specialist training and evidence of ongoing professional development.
Experience
- Consultant with experience as a specialist.
- Senior NHS leadership experience at Trust level.
- Experience working across organizational boundaries and leading change.
- Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and patient engagement.
Knowledge
- Experience with NHS clinical networks, governance, and risk management.
- Data utilization for quality and productivity improvements.
- Understanding of NHS commissioning and contracting.
