Deputy Director / Head of Clinical Programme 5 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants The Deputy Director and Head of Rare Disease and Reproductive Genomics is a key leadership role in the West Midlands Genomics Laboratory (WMGL), having operational and strategic responsibility for a broad range of laboratory services within the Central and South Genomic Laboratory Hub. The Deputy Director is required to deputise for the Laboratory Director at local and national meetings and make a significant contribution to the leadership of the wider Senior Leadership Team within the laboratory. The post holder will be instrumental in ensuring a high quality, timely and appropriate service is provided to patients within the Central and South Genomic Medicine Service, with a clear focus on rare disease. A strong commitment to improving the quality of diagnostic services and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team are essential. The post holder should have experience of working at the national level with a clear understanding of the wider NHS strategy for both Genomics and Healthcare Science. Applicants must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist and hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) in Genetics (or equivalence e.g. PhD) alongside comprehensive experience of working at consultant level. A well-developed leadership style, considerable resilience and the ability to work independently are key attributes for the Deputy Director. The post holder will be required to take operational and strategic responsibility for leading the Rare Disease and Reproductive Genomics (RDRG) programme and deputise for the Laboratory Director at local and national meetings. With the Laboratory Director they will establish and lead the strategic objectives and priorities for the WMGL ensuring compliance with national standards and guidance. They will have managerial responsibility and oversight for the RDRG team of healthcare scientists and work with service users to ensure a high quality genomics service is delivered to patients. They will act with a high level of personal and professional accountability in a consultant capacity liaising with clinicians and operating with a high level of scientific expertise. WMGL is the designated Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) for the Central & South GLH Consortium providing genomic analysis to patients referred with rare disease and/or cancer.
