Overview

Pegasus Group is seeking a Director to join our Design service team in Birmingham. If you are passionate about design, skilled in building relationships, and ready to help drive the growth of our architectural discipline, we welcome your expertise.

As part of a leading UK multi-disciplinary development consultancy, Pegasus Group’s Design consultancy works across an exceptionally wide range of sectors and scales, delivering projects that are both diverse and impactful. From rural diversification schemes and motorway service areas to bespoke housing, community and faith buildings, and luxury homes, we bring creativity and technical precision to every commission. Alongside this, we lead on complex masterplanning and large-scale urban extensions, ensuring our designs are commercially astute, context-driven, and transformative for the places and communities we serve.

This Director position within our Birmingham design team involves close collaboration with in-house planning, heritage, and urban design colleagues. The role requires leadership in design, project delivery, and development strategy, with a strong emphasis on engaging stakeholders and influencing outcomes to win new business and expand our architectural offer.

Our team delivers projects ranging from residential-led regeneration and strategic urban extensions to retrofit work and heritage schemes. All projects are context-driven and commercially informed. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creative thinking, technical precision, and an ability to inspire confidence in clients and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Leading architectural projects from concept to completion (across all RIBA stages), tailored to individual expertise and regional needs
  • Acting as a trusted advisor and key contact for clients, consultants, and stakeholders—able to influence decision-making and secure positive project outcomes
  • Driving business development by actively winning new work, expanding client networks, preparing proposals, and positioning Pegasus Group as a leader in design
  • Managing internal teams and coordinating with external partners to achieve quality standards, consistency, and timely delivery
  • Championing good design practices and contributing to the long-term growth and direction of the architecture discipline
  • Progressing into a broader leadership role involving mentoring junior staff, shaping team culture, and guiding strategic development

Requirements

  • Proven ability to engage, influence, and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to unlock opportunities and drive business growth
  • Collaborative mindset, with readiness to take on leadership and client relationship responsibilities
  • RIBA Part III qualification or international equivalent; ARB registration preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-registration experience in a recognised design consultancy
  • Demonstrated experience across all RIBA stages, including design leadership and technical delivery
  • Track record of delivering projects in residential, mixed-use, commercial, regeneration, or education sectors
  • Proactive approach to design, project management, and business development
  • Solid understanding of UK building regulations and planning frameworks
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and colleagues alike
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and visualisation tools is advantageous
