You will lead efforts to evaluate and help execute strategic business development deals that align with GSK’s R&D priorities. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will play a key role in advancing our pipeline and delivering value to patients. The Director of Search and Evaluation is a senior role in the R&D organization at GSK, supporting early and late-stage global business development and licensing initiatives with a direct impact on the Respiratory, Inflammation and Immunology strategy and portfolio. The S&E group proactively scouts external innovation to strengthen GSK’s medicines portfolio. By assembling teams of internal subject matter experts, the role holder conducts technical evaluation and due diligence to ensure an in-depth understanding of strategic investment opportunities. Working with multiple stakeholders, the role holder brings forward business cases to internal governance bodies to secure endorsement.

By effectively synthesizing and communicating the merits of potential investment opportunities, the role holder enables enterprise decision-making related to business development opportunities. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific and clinical background, proven project and people leadership, business and strategic acumen, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will engage and collaborate across organizational boundaries with an entrepreneurial attitude, acting with urgency and agility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesize varied information including clinical data, competitive landscape, market, and investment trends to formulate business cases delivering enterprise value to GSK.
  • Drive constructive challenge and debate amongst senior stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for GSK.
  • Act with urgency and entrepreneurial attitude to drive the deal process toward go/no-go decisions.
  • Engage with the life science investment and biotech community, alongside senior GSK executives, to represent GSK strategic initiatives and build deal flow.
  • Establish and lead initial technical evaluation and formal due diligence to deliver rigorous scientific assessments and clear recommendations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with external partners throughout the deal process, from submission to negotiation of term sheets through to deal execution.
  • Collaborate with the Transactional lead during negotiation of term sheets and definitive agreements.
  • Prepare and present business cases and briefing materials for senior management and internal governance, with cross-functional support.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and timely decision-making to complete transactions.
  • Maintain a broad network of internal and external stakeholders and ensure GSK’s visibility as a Partner of Choice for the biotech community.
  • Maintain expertise in industry trends and competitor datasets relevant to GSK’s strategic focus.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in the life sciences (e.g., MS, PhD, PharmD, MD)
  • 5+ years in drug discovery or development with focus in respiratory, immunology, or inflammation
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical business development; deal sheet submission required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD/MD, with post-doc or MBA experience preferred
  • 5+ years in business development in a multinational pharmaceutical company
  • Experience in pharmaceutical R&D with international exposure
  • Strong scientific reputation in drug discovery and development
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior executive teams
  • Proven leadership in drug discovery environments and successful partnerships
  • Strong critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Excellent communication skills

Work Location

This role is based in the United States or United Kingdom and offers a hybrid model, combining on-site and remote work flexibility.
